Well, Bernhard, some use their imagination. And poor Edith, I feel so bad for her right now. Β

She spends most of her time baby-sitting those guys, I'm sure

Thanks - both are so incredibly self-obsessed, there's no denying it. It was, always, so much fun drawing Bernie, and man, Edith sure does know how to pick her men

Thanks, and yes it is. Oscar Wilde is one of my favourite authors, so I had to incorporate him somehow.

I've only seen the old one with Jeremy Brett. The new one doesn't interest me; it seems too... modernised for my taste

Have Jeremy Brett made one? OO Must find

Indeed; It is wonderful. Slow-paced and kind of heavy, but definitely much more in touch with the original story.

The movie is amazing, and I've always loved Gaston for the blundering idiot he is!

Brinatello In reply to TopHatTurtle [2014-03-12 10:30:46 +0000 UTC]

I've always loved this bit of 'coincidental trivia' with Gaston's voice actor, Richard White. He played Erik in Yeston and Kopit's musical, "Phantom" while Michael Piontek played Raoul in the Los Angeles production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical, "The Phantom of the Opera." Michael is married to Paige O'Hara, the voice actress of Belle.

Beautiful lines! Β You really captured the Disney style! Β I really like Bernie's design, it's so clean but has all the main characteristics so I know it's him! Β Zven looks awesome, and works well in proportion with Edith. Β This is a very animated piece!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TopHatTurtle In reply to ThermidorResistance [2014-03-12 09:00:40 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a bunch - it's always fun to work with proportions, and having several characters in one drawing is always a bit of a challenge, but a challenge I adore.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ThermidorResistance In reply to TopHatTurtle [2014-03-13 01:22:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I definately see a Glenn Keane influence along with Don Bluth and Warner Bros in the way you draw the mouths. Β But that's just subtle styles I have noticed in your work, I'm not sure if it's intentional or not. Β If you could say who was or is the biggest influence to you as a character designer, then who would that be? Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TopHatTurtle In reply to ThermidorResistance [2014-03-13 09:54:28 +0000 UTC]

Definitely Glenn Keane; I was never a Don Bluth fan, honestly, the animation was somehow too fluid and soft which never did anything for me. The stories themselves never appealed to me either, so I've always been a Disney-girl, no question, and Glenn is by far one of my greatest sources of inspirationh along with a cartoonist called Peter Madsen.

ThermidorResistance In reply to TopHatTurtle [2014-03-13 10:45:45 +0000 UTC]

Don bluth relied heavily on rotoscoping....

Gastonish Bernhard lol, I love it
Bernie loves himself not less than Gaston does
N'aww, I love the way you drew Zven, he is adorable. I love his pose and expression, he really dies look like that when someone doesn't give him his books back
Bernhard is love
And Edith XDD She is the only adequate person here that has to watch that childish behavior XDD
I love the way you drew here hair here, she looks so gorgeous I can't find words to express my delight

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TopHatTurtle In reply to Amaryllex [2014-03-12 08:56:50 +0000 UTC]

I am ashamed that I didn't see the parallels between Gaston and Bernhard until you pointed them out Probably because, as much as I like Gaston, he IS a fucking fool, and I give Bernhard a bit more credit than that
Zven was SO cute to draw, and I really want to do more, especially taken into this direction.
Poor Edith, who has to babysit these huge and adult men, but hey... She's sleeping with one of them, so it is totally her own fault! That'll teach her to be sleeping with the enemy.
This hair-style is going to be her 40's hair-do, so I can keep track on which AU she's in

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Amaryllex In reply to TopHatTurtle [2014-03-12 09:53:38 +0000 UTC]

Bernie is surely much smarter than Gaston, but still staying selfie XDD
You're right, it's absolutely her fault XD She had to get used)))
I wish I could repeat this hair-do ;_____;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TopHatTurtle In reply to Amaryllex [2014-03-12 09:59:44 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry... I have a hard time repeating this hair-do and have to use several references to make it succeed.
Exactly... it's either sleeping with him and putting up with his crap, or not and be without... And knowing Edith, she would take a lot of crap if it meant staying with him

She's stubborn like that.
