I’ve been listening to a lot of Ayreon this winter, so it was high time I did some fanart. And because sci-fi is not my cup of tea, as you may have noticed, I put Ayreon in the middle of the image and banned his visions of the future to the edges of the picture, so I could more or less stay in my comfort zone, haha.

By the way: the Forever in her tube would be Floor Jansen’s Forever. I don’t know why. I just decided. I mean, because, FLOOR JANSEN.

Very loose references for practically everything. The colours are an undistinguishable mashup of my limited palette of drawing ink which I had lying around, some acrylics, and the inevitable watercolours. Mostly my beloved liquid phthalo blue.

For everybody who has not a single clue what this picture is about and what I’m talking about: Ayreon is a music project by Dutch Rock-/Metal-Mastermind Arjen Lucassen. All albums are concept albums and tell a story, most of them a continuous one. That story is about aliens called the Forever, things going boom, genetic fuckups, many awesome voices, and a blind bard/seer named Ayreon who lives in 6th century Britain at King Arthur’s court, among other things. If that doesn’t make you curious, I can’t help you!

Today’s music suggestion should be obvious, too. I mean, ANYTHING Ayreon, though The Awareness and Eyes of Time obviously fit best. Okay okay and The Sixth Extinction for the background.
