Description Continuing from the Korean Super Robot redesign series...

Although Taekwon V is the godfather of Korean robot animation, it always involves plagiarism issue with its design.

However, there were numbers of original super robots in the first feature.

One of them was a robot belonging to a girl name Mary. She is a "daughter" of the genius Dr. Kaff. You find out she is a robot and she was sent to steal the secret behind Taekwon V. She is a robot with an artificial intelligence (and some memories of real daughter of Dr. Kaff?). You can definitely see her moral struggle through out the movie and it was something that was very impactful to young viewers back in 1976. Probably one of the first experience in a narrative made for kids where things weren't so black or white.

Of course there is element of Pinocchio syndrome on Mary's end of "desiring" (can robots really desire something?) to become a human. But it was often overshadowed by the choices she had to make. Sometime bad, some times neutral (indifference), and some times making good decisions.

To me, she was the most memorable character of the entire franchise.

She has this robot that she controls (robot controlling a robot?). And my design is based on her giant robot.

I took most liberty and did a lot of design update. In fact, I am a bit concerned that maybe I went a bit too far.

In the original she has this ugly goggle like eyes and flat lower face. In order to give more feminine flair, my premise is that it's more like a designer shades that the robot is wearing and the mask opens up to reveal her face.

I have all this back story as to why she is designed and the purpose of it and stuff... But I will save you from all the details.

Overall, I wanted to come up with a design that is undoubtedly a female form in its nature and maybe even cause some people to say it looks beautiful.

Recently Hollywood introduced a motion picture on Astro Boy (a.k.a. Atom), which was originally a well-known japanese TV animation series directed by osamu tezuka. It was popular not only in japan but also Korea. I was surprised that such a 'small' animation could boom-up to a huge franchise big enough to release its own blockbuster movie. I wish Taekwon V could also be the one that is able to become either well-known enough or respected and renowned or rediscovered enough to make a huge blockbuster in Hollywood(and also be released in theaters by a huge Korean movie company big enough to be known worldwide! ㅎㅎ)

well... Atom/Astro Boy is a very well known franchise in US as well. It's not that 'small' as you mentioned.

Also, the feature animation didn't do that well... essentially putting Imagi Studio in a very tough situation.

I don't think even if Taekwon V has Transformers level visual, it will do well in the western market with the current story direction. It's way too "korean" and will not appeal to none Koreans.

Sometimes the comprimaries looks better than the protagonists. This is the case!
Instead of making her another rocket tits babe they gave her an original design. Though yet feminine! Maybe they have been ispired by Lady Oscar.
I like very much the proportions, small torso and large hips. Was it like this even in original or did you made it better?
I have seen the mask things in other robots. The most ancient I remember is Daikengo, whose lower face opens to reveal a large mouth with vampire like fangs when he goes in high power mode (he even roars when that happens).

Although not like they weren't like the pointy missile breasts like the ones from Mazinger and other Japanese anime series, she did have more of a woman's figure in the original. I wanted to go against that tradition and gave her more "modest" look.

You can check out the original one's design in this link ([link] ).
