Description
Whew! After hearing me spew crap about this costume, you finally get to see it! Woo! Uncreative title is uncreative.I am proud to introduce to you all Flame Princess, from the tv series Adventure Time! This costume is made and modeled by me. Huzzah!
The base of this dress is orange and pink dupioni silk made from a modified pattern. It has a slight train on the gown, which I will upload pictures of the back of the dress on a later date, and it falls completely to the ground. I have to hold it up when I walk so that I don't trip on it. I then modified the pattern even further to produce the... vest jacket... thing that is over top of the dress, which is made of two separate layers of fabric. The Fuchsia layer is also dupioni silk, the top layer is shimmer orange organza. The details around the neckline are also fuchsia dupioni silk. With all these layers, I'm starting to sound like a cake! Hahaha.
On to the wig! The wig was purchased from ebay, then curled like crazy. I decided that it was too thin (I have really dark hair in comparison, and you could see my hair through it) so I ordered some wefts from Arda Wigs and hand stitched those in and curled them. I seriously love Arda you guys, they have fantastic products and service! There was a problem with my order, which they contacted me about right away and resolved it within the day! Talk about quick service!
Things that need to be done/fixed:
- I would like to style the wig in the updo that FP normally has, because it is crazy fun and I want the challenge. I chose to have her hair down at first because this is my first time working with a wig, ever.
- I need to resin-cast her gems on her forehead and dress. I actually had made some quick ones out of foam for MTAC Omega, but they we pretty much crap and I hated them. A lot. lol. I might actually consider commissioning these from someone, so if you know someone or can resin cast yourself, feel free to contact me!
- I need to take in the vest thing. The dress underneath fits like a glove, but I was a bit apprehensive and made the vest part a bit bigger than I should have. It gives me the paper-bag-no-curves effect hahaha. Oh deary me lol. It also doesn't help that I've been working out everyday since the costume's completion, and now it is baggy on me in places it wasn't before. Le sigh.
This was a really great costume to work on, and I have a lot of fun wearing it! It is a lot more comfortable than I expected! As for the photo itself, which is not edited *at all*, my twin sister took it at our family's home next to the woods we live next to/own. We were careful to avoid the poison ivy and the ticks, but hey, we can't all win lol. For those of you curious, I am holding a branch of honeysuckle, which is actually an exotic invasive species, believe it or not. Not that anyone cares.
And I think that is all I have to say about this! It's kind of amazing, you guys finally get to see my ugly mug and what a fatty I am! Lol. I hope you all like my labor of love and my sister's mad photography skillz! I apologize for the wall of text!

Is it possible for you to direct me to the original pattern for the top? I'm attempting to cosplay FP and I can't find any good patterns anywhere, it's rather frustrating. Also any tips would be extremely helpful :\

Sure thing dear! It is Butterick Pattern B4827 [link] . I had to heavily alter it, which was actually pretty simple. After I had cut out the under dress from the pattern (there is actually a full dress under there, not a skirt) I laid the pattern out on the floor, and using a pencil, traced where the edges would be for the lines of the bottom of the jacket thing. I added a 5/8ths of an inch seam allowance, then carefully cut the actual pattern paper to make the pattern. I marked all the cut off pieces with the number that the pattern piece was so if I needed the pattern again I could tape the pieces back together. I hope that helps dear! If you need any more help, please don't hesitate to ask! <3

As did I. If you happened to glance upon the (rather lengthy) artist's comments, at the end of the third sentence, it says "costume made and modeled by me." By "me" I mean I, the female (who does admittedly look a bit like an amazonian, but with some vicious curves) who owns this account. I do happen to have some large muscular arms, but these large muscular arms happen to be able to bench press 100 pounds. I rather like that, because I can handle just about anything by my self without assistance. I also take martial arts, and am a tomboy. But I do have an hourglass figure, and if you need a reference, it is actually very similar to *yayacosplay , and she is quite female. I can have several people vouch for me if you like.

Thank you! The wig was kind of challenging, but I learned a lot and I can't wait to work on it again when I have time. Oh what an incredibly illusive creature! Hahaha. Thanks again doll!
