Description Something absolutely different!
This time an animation sequence made using only traditional mediums. Hand-drawn with pencil, inked with black pen and coloured with markers.

I was a bit anxious as going 100% traditional means...no digital correcting afterwards so if I messed something up, well I wouldn't be able to fix it.
But it went better then expected! ;v;

My rostrum light bulb died so durpderp had to use a shitty one-thus the flickering light in gif :'D

Anyways! Here is my little tribute to the Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit

To expand my portfolio I try to make animations in many different styles. This one is purposefully heading more toward old, children storybook feel!
Hope you like it!

Adorable animation, I hadn't heard of peter rabbit since I was like... freaking four-five years old. Sometime when I was a puny kid going to a German preschool with nuns. They scare me ._.

amazingly fluid lil animation there
I allways liked the traditional animations where you can see colors or lines woble a bit from frame to frame....it does give it aΒ more personal tpuch and extra movements to the chars :3

so in short, great work :3

Pure traditional methods like this was a favored medium for a lot of famous experimental animators like Bill Plympton Β  But yeah, digital 2D animation made it easier in the long run.Β  We're spoiled, no?Β

Have you tried doing a video recording of yourself -- or a friend -- doing the act of putting a short-sleeved shirt?Β  I saw one example of one of the Insomniac Game developers doing various action poses nd using those for reference to their character animations for the Agorian races, and they added some creative license to it (or whatever the term is called, like being able to feel the animation like how one 'feels' the music when played).Β  It might help with your future portfolio building.

Thank you Mira!
Yeah, the digital animation, especially 3D one become popular mostly because, against all odds, it's actually cheaper in the long run.
Once you create the models, you don't have to re-create them on every single frame, you just move them around, like a puppet, it's like digital stop motion.
Takes less time. Less money. Easier to make sequels with already made models.
While 2D needs to be drawn. On each and every single frame, again and again. It takes more people to make it, more time, cost more...
If you want background in another perspective, you need to draw it again...while in 3D you just turn around the perspective of already modeled one.

I guess that's why, 2D animation is slowly used less and less. It's quite hard to get job in 2D animation these days, especially if you live in UK.

Nah, I didn't do nor saw anyΒ  recording. I don't use reference when I animated unless I REALLY NEED IT.
Taking clothes off or putting them on is something what I do every single day so it's easy for me to understand how the motion works, more or less and then again,
every creature and human, even male takes of clothes in different way than female does so...one reference video wouldn't do a justice! xD
I think the best reference is just observation. Walking on streets/school/park, and instead of starring at the phone, looking at people and animals and learn how they move.
I always loved that, especially studying the facial expressions and people's reactions.

I think the best thing is, studying people around you, or simply, if you really need it, stand up in front of the mirror and make action of what you want to animate.
Be it scratch yourself on the head, take the shirt off, jump. See how you did it. Repeat...until you remember, draw the key frames, and then just relax and in-between them,
instead of referencing the partially copyright/licensed material and ending up with the same motion many other animators copied.
It gives you original piece of work.
It also forces you to work harder and focus more? Well it does in my case!
Also, I don't think that I will ever find reference video or little rabbit putting shirt on haha! Just joking...but I wish! :iconstuzkiblushplz:

If I will ever reference footage [I was thinking of rotoscoping random animal] I would do it, but not to train myself in animation (as it doesn't really, since it's just tracing)...but simply, for fun!
