This Winged Sphinx is a mythological figure of Persians. I could color it by more darker tones, if I want it to give a more historical impression and effect. For example, I might have use only brown tones, light and dark, as I did in my portrait of Cyrus The Great. However, I wanted to color it by more light tones, to give more fantastic effect. Fade and complete at the same time. You really described it good.
