Yeah, thx!
Actually Triton is Poseidon's son, so you're quite right. I was inspired by the Pony I ride which's name really is Poseidon.

good job....you might consider painting onto the forelock...it looks plastered into place.Otherwise good job blending and making the horse look like it actully standing in the rock

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate your comment. And you're right, the hoof is a bit messy. If I find the PS file I might edit it. I'm glad you like tha way it stands in the rocks. That was my aim but many people claimed the "cut off hoofes" as a mistake.

how do you do that text that you did on that manip? It looks kinda streaky i guess

I searched for a way to integrate the signature mor in the pic without ruining it. I just motion blurred it and I use this technique quite often now for signatures (:

alright,so all you did was smudge and blurred it?

I just used PS' motion blur filter. Filter -> Blur -> Motion Blur (:

Gorgeous. I think it's interesting how you took a photo of a horse from a dry, dusty environment and put it at the water's edge. I was surprised to see the original photo - your manip-ed version looks so fluid!

I think the filter is a bit too overwhelming, I guess you've added it to create an underwater effect ? But I think it decreases the quality of the manipulation,Especially on the horse. I like the composition, but the big splash looks a bit weird, it looks like it comes out of the rocks. The eye of the horse is really well done, but I don't get why you didn't remove his halter. Also the tail and mane could be better, the tail seems to fade away and his forelock looks too cutted out. I think the head looks also a bit too sharp on the edges. His hooves seem to fade away in a rocky underground, and that's a bit unrealistic. Overall, I like the composition and the colours but I think you still have to pay a bit more attention to the details

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

toteZitrone In reply to Kiwiaa [2010-01-18 13:22:43 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your comment. The sharp edges of the head are one point I recognized already, but was to lazy to change it afterwards. My fault ofcourse. (=

Looking to your other mentioned points I think we might have a bit different idea of the picture. At first I didn't want to show an underwater scene, the effects I applied should just give it an unsual, not boring look. I see this picture more as a "might be" painting of a horse on a cliff, where water splashes up. For this reason I didn't remove the halter. Because this shouldn't be a realistic picture of a wild horse I think this halter isn't disturbing. Especially not because it's a detailed show-halter to "decorate" the horse. Perhaps this is a problem of the old halter or no halter question in equine photos. Perhaps this doesn't become clear and I should have used the splash better? The fading hoofes I individually can't see. For me it looks like they are stuck into the rocks. Perhaps this also just becomes clear, because I know what I wanted to show?

So please don't missunderstand me. I don't want to find crappy excuses to deny that the manip isn't perfect, there are just some points I personally don't agree with you / can't see like you. But ofcourse I won't stop thinking about them and check them out in my next manipulation

Because of a whish of another commentor I uploaded a small version of the original horse picture and linked it.

Kiwiaa In reply to toteZitrone [2010-01-18 17:18:55 +0000 UTC]

Well ,that's true, when I look at a manipulation I first see the technical aspect, so that's my bad! And well, I don't know actually about the halter, the horse looks quite wild actually, especially in combination with the waves, and then the title 'tritons wrath' made me think it was rather a fantasy manipulation, so that's why I didn't appreciate the halter.

For the painted look, I really didn't see that, but I would suggest smudging the horse and putting another effect over the background, but that's just my opinion

Right. I used several filters and layer blend modes with different opacitys after I matched the colours and levels of the different elements.
