Stallions ^^ What else should I say? These horses belong to the North Rhine-Westphalian stud farm in Warendrof and so they are some of the very best stallions for breeding sport horses world wide. But sometimes they also just get a bit out of control ;D

Wenn es nicht geht versteh ich das natürlich auch

I'd agree to you that sport horses often aren't treated very well and that people should ask themselfes mor often why their horses act in a certain way. But not every horse that freaks out one time was beaten or swamped. As you sayed they are just feeling beeings and so they also can have a bad day. And ofcourse there are calm and easy stallions but you have to admit that the degree of probability to get in some "trouble" with a stallion is just a bit higher. Not because they are bad horses but just because they (often, not always) have a stronger character than other horses and question the rankoder more than geldings. That ofcourse depends on the individual horse's character (which also depends on it's treatment) but also on simple biochemical reasons (:
Thx for your long and elaborately comment.

I think, that people often don`t give a single chance to stallion, that he can be nice and lovely too.
In Latvia i`ve seen people who comes to a stallion and starts working with him by yelling and beating him instantly.
I`ve asked: "Why did you beat him, WTF??"
Often I hear an answer: "Look, he`s a stallion, he is dangerous, he will be agressive, so better you start first, if you wanna get with him safely."
It`s such a nonsense - people don`t even give them a chance - i`ve seen moments, when stallions, like other horses are fumbling with their mouths in chance to find something tasty in owners pocket or is licking owners hands and he`s getting hits instantly.
Why? Because owner said: "He wanted to bite me, he`s a stallion, they are doing this!"
When me with my girlfriend bought our boy, everyone said: "Are you stupid? Why did you bought a stallion? He will be crazy, evil, mad, you`re taking risks to be injured, and so on."
If you start to work with him with thoughts like: "Now, be ready, he will attack me, so better I will attack first!", then there will be problems instantly.
You start to work with him as with a normal horse.
Of course, if there`s a mares near by, you must pay a bit of attention, but, first you must teach your horse, that if he is with owner, he must forget all the other pleasures and concentrate to work.
After a work he can run to his harem,or friends and spend some good time with them.
Of course, it`s bad if a stallion is standing indoors most of his days - then he will get bored, and, when he gets out, he will unload his stored energy, by running wild.
Yes, of course, they need a bit different care and attitude, but if you manage that, you will rise an excellent horse, a great friend with a lot more potential and power than a regular "no balls" horse.

whooaa... unbelievable what you say there. I don't want to say that Germany is a horses paradise at all but this negative attitude against stallions you told me from is really new for me. As you sayed they have to be handled special and sure they are not a beginners horse. Some like that, some don't. Some undertsand why you want to have one, some say you're mad. But the opinion that they are brutal, aggressive and uncontroable in general I never heard. Really shocking. oO
If I ever bought a hrose I would want to have a stallion. Just like you I think they usually are much more amazing and have a much stronger character than geldings. Ofcourse this can be to the detriment for you, but it also can give you a great friend. I don't like mares at all and geldings sometimes tend to get very phlegmatic and character less. - Not that I couldn't understand them
I hope you'll have a good time with your stallion. From what you sayed I'm sure you educate him very well and will make an amazing horse out of him (=

the opinion stated above (about stallions being so agressive and violent, etc) Is also heavily expressed in america. i find it depressing that stallions are so easily brushed aside as so dangerous when I've seen more mares in person that cause more harm and are more dangerous than stallions - even the well trained and gently treated mares I've met can be real mean!
animals, just like people, simply have 'bad days' and 'good days' and even have individual personalities. In my experience I'd rather own a stallion over anything else. I rescued and trained one and he was my first horse on top of never having had a chance to know human kindness before I got him and he remained the absolutely sweetest thing I ever saw. it wasn't until his new owner gelded him that he turned mean.

I totally agree too you.
If a mare is "bad", than, well, she must ahve a bad day, a bad rider or is said as just a little spooky.
If it is a stallion people say: look! those crazy stallions…
Indeed I had some workign holidays at a stable in Andalucia. There where almost only stallions there and were some of the hroses I felt most save on. Two of them even run in the class for little(!) children.

exactly! at the spanish riding school they teach people how to ride on stallions even having them ride bareback before putting them in the saddle (in some cases). It's bad handling and bad training that really make a 'bad stallion' IMO. And hell; mares can become incredibly brutal when they go into heat - stallions don't go into heat!

Thank you for the support.
It`s very possible that after a year and a half I`ll move to Germany altogether with horse, because I want to study some horse trainer program and in Latvia chances to get good education about horses is very poor - almost 0, thanks to ex soviet system and education style.
So, if it happens, maybe I could introduce you with my boy.

Not too much testosterone but perhaps bad attitude, beatings, yelling, and some violence every day.
Show and sport horses often gets really bad attitude from their owners - often they don`t care about horse`s comfort, health and feelings.
There`s a thougt: "I bought a horse for million dollars, he must do everything for this price I paid - he must be a superhorse!"
But people often don`t get it, that it`s just a simple horse and it don`t matters how good his parents are and how big was his price - it is and it will be only a horse - a living thing with feelings, love and fear, just like us.
Horse will be as nice or evil how you educate and raise him.
With yelling and beating you can rise only a monster and one day hi will rise against you.
I own a stallion and he is so nice and lovely horse - though he is only 2 years old, he is very calm, friendly and tolerant - no signs of an "evil stallion" he even lives together with a mare and there is no problems at all - he`s protecting her, they`re playing together and all is great.
We teach him slowly and with care and love so as every training stand as a game not as a punishment for him.
I don`t know why a was writing this all...
Maybe I have a vision that someday people will care what happens with horses and most important - why it happens just like that...
