I.
My favorite composer is Ravel
but I put One Direction on repeat
when I'm writing a final paper
for my music theory class.
Unchecked, my laugh can reach
a frequency
just below that which
only dogs can hear.
I can get sidetracked for hours
with my laptop and my
out-of-tune ukulele.
If I like a book enough,
and I have the time,
I will finish it in one sitting,
pausing only when physically forced.
Try as I might, I usually can't
crack a joke
without laughing at it
before, while, and after
telling it.
Alternative music
to me is like
my favorite room
in a beautiful house
where I can always
be myself.
The speedometer on my Jetta
doesn't always work
but don't you dare suggest
buying a new one.
I set my clocks
at least five minutes ahead
because I can't stand
arriving late.
I'm a proud Aquarius
who loves astrology
and will guess your sign
within ten minutes
of meeting you.
When I go more than two days
without writing
I am like a computer
with too much content
and not enough memory.
I run slower,
make strange noises,
and seem to
over-think everything.
Books are like
my teddy bears of adulthood.
I have a hard time keeping them
in the most pristine condition
because I take them everywhere
but it's all with so much love.
Sometimes I like being alone,
while other times
I starve for a connection
and human interaction.

II.
It may just be too much to ask,
but perhaps, maybe in some time
there will be someone in my life
who understands all of these things
though he might get quite frustrated
(he may yell, scoff, and/or tease me
and if those acts never occurred
I cannot picture loving him)
and maybe while conversing
with a friend of his, well, perhaps
horoscopes will come up in the
discussion and he will smile and
think of me, even though he might
think astrology is just for
losers like me, (and remind me
of this every other day).
And maybe he'll take me to a
Mumford & Sons concert because
he loves them like I do, and we'll
talk about it the whole ride home,
and bore our friends with how much we
loved it. And maybe he'll buy me
a journal inscribed with a love
note and when I don't know what to
write about, I will read it
and be inspired to write about
my adoration for him and
how I am just so darn happy
to believe in the concept of
true love with conviction again.
