Actress Millie Gibson was just one of many celebrities who were chosen as Cybus Industries' brand ambassadors. She already starred in roles in new CybusTV and CybusCinema shows. But as she stood for photos, her EarPods started to flash a blue light and beep. Her body stiffly jolted upright. Everybody else around her did the same. The daily download was beginning. Starting with the news, followed by the latest weather forecasts, schedules, all the information she could need was beamed directly into her brain. All of this occurring as she stood, entranced, without a single thought, staring ahead. This was not the first time, nor would it be the last. Cybus was everywhere, their logo on the backdrop behind her and even decorated on her EarPods, and now, they were even in her mind. Not that she had any reason to think this was wrong, she always kept her ears plugged by those convenient little devices. To somebody without the pods, this would almost be an eerie sight, but such a person is rare. Nobody else could see her, their own minds occupied by the simultaneous control. As the download comes to a finish, Millie smiles, before continuing to stand for photos as if nothing happened. The EarPods had been keeping her mind, along with everybody else's, in a docile state, conditioned to always wear them, always to trust Cybus. But one day, she'll receive the download for the last time, before she is just another drone marching in a sea of thousands, EarPods beeping again, heading for her upgrade, only obeying what Cybus instructs her. The day Cybus takes full control, and the burden of emotions she feels, she'll never have to feel again after the ultimate upgrade. That iconic logo will soon be on her chest, as she will become another identical steel machine. But for now, she continues her day with no knowledge of the reward awaiting her and every other Cybus member.
