Description lol don't ask about the gorilla mask

also ewww ilooklikeshitahahaha this is what I get for doing this shit at 2 AM

So I was gonna get to making my own set of Eridan trousers, and I noticed the only tutorial on how to make em included using duct tape
now that sounds all fine and dandy, but have you ever tried painting and using duct tape?

the paint bleeds through under it and you get very uneven lines
so that's not a very good process if you want to make a pretty good cosplay.

keep in mind, I'm not saying that way sucks and mine is better, no
whichever you wish to do is obviously up to you.
This version takes A LOT of dedication

I do not recommend trying this way if you really don't care for Eridan cosplay

Anywho this is part 2 Painting, Do's and Don'ts!

part 1: [link]

Any questions feel free to ask!

except about the gorilla mask
don't ask about that >w>

Love the tutorial, but I was a little worried over the paint. Is it just the picture or will it look hella strange in person? By that I mean, like very unnatural and kinda shiny plastic-y. I'm probably not explaining this well. Also, it looks like that paint has sparkles which is another concern, mainly because I have that paint and I had planned on using it for this exact sort of thing. Do the pants look sparkly too or no? Is there maybe a way to dye the pants that might work to make it look more like it was made that way? (Sorry I'm being super question-y, your tutorial was cute and totally helpful, but I'm just unsure of this stuff, sorry TnT)

Ok so few questions. Would I be ok to use just plain black pants, because I had some from my previous eridan cosplay I just used royal blue duct tape as the stripes((people loved the pants but I hated them)) so I took all the tape off to get all the wrinkles out would it be ok to use the tape ((which is actuall about the same width as those seams after you deseam it)) as a cover over te black areas so you could paint a straight line without using seams? ((I have the correct paint and stuff but yeah)) and another question no matter what pants I have if I lay them down and try to remove wrinkles the middle area of the pants where the two legs meet is always wrinkled or folded, is that ok? Should I just paint under and over it or should I find a way to get it flat?((is not a very crafty person and sucks at this stuff>.<))

Hmmm, thats actually a method a lot of people use

mainly to color the shirts, not duct tape per say since it might leave off left over stick on the pants and that might be bad

I personally do not like that method, its a commonly used one and many people enjoy it

but some paint can and will go under the tapeΒ

I'm not sure if you're a perfectionist or pay attention to the tiniest little details but thats something I personally dislike

but! From afar its generally not noticable, and especially with these kinds of pants its not something you should worry about

again, personally I wouldnt recommend this method, but thats just cos I don't like it myself, otherwise its a fair and fast way to get it done and it'll take you less time than the method above

so I'd honestly like to give it a 7/10 if you wanted to go that way

it works! But you might get a bit of paint where it might not be wanted

and as a visual to show what I mean by the Tiniest detail

4.bp.blogspot.com/_Iu6Rc2kuC-U…

See the blue paint that sort of bleeded onto the white?

Thats what I mean

see its not a bad thing, it really isnt all in all

but its just me nitpicking

blaaa I'm terribly sorry I ramble too much

Is the middle area the crotch area what you're talking about???

try painting the rest and leave that area alone for last

then once its dry ((DONT REMOVE THE TAPE AT THIS POINT)) try putting the pants on

is it a spot that will be all that visable and noticable?

Or is it generally hidden?

If generally hidden I honestly wouldnt worry about that, Its Going to get wrinkled by walking and all the wear and activity you'll have while wearing them

but if its visual to a point where you want to paint it then do one side at a time, left or right pick whichever then justΒ fully iron it flat down till it gets flat, tape and paint, wait till done and dry then do the other side

Hmm that all sounded jumbled up and confusing

do you kind of get the idea of what I mean?

Feel free to keep coming back for questions and I'll be here for help ovo!

No problemo!!! Hope you find them, they're a real easy find at goodwills and most thrift stores really

Either way your method works too so long as careful! Best of luck C:

im trying with the duckktape first, i did one stripe and the first and second layers came out really well, i just had to be really careful to lay the tape on flat areas and make sure it was closed off, i like the results though!!!

I was looking for a tutorial for how to make Yowane Haku's pants from her costume in the song "Dark Woods Circus" when I stumbled upon this. Do you think that this tutorial could work for those pants, or would it be too time consuming? Note, I have stilts I plan to wear under the pants so the pants would have to be about 5 feet tall, or maybe more. I'm thinking while this is a great method, it would just take far too long, but I wanted your input too.

Toxicated-kisame52 In reply to MoonlitSoliloquy [2013-04-18 00:09:01 +0000 UTC]

((the references I found while searching were all pretty bad fanart, could you provide me with a better reference picture just in case if I accidentally got the wrong one??))

well if they're the blue with black striped ones I saw then it might be a bit time consuming yes, but it would work better than most other methods

In any case! The easiest way for you would probably be to find blue pants instead of black
then switch it around so you'd be painting on the black stripes
this will take about two-three days off your work because black is a lot darker than blue and will take lesser coatings
if anything, it should cover it up with the first two!

long story short, I do in fact recommend this method yes, just
* switch it so you use base blue pants
* and instead of blue, paint on black
((the downside is that there aren't many blue pin striped pants out there))
I was able to find these if it helps! [link]

but if anything, you'd probably need some fabric chalk to make the guidelines

**note, you can still use this original method of black pants > blue paint

it all depends how much time you're willing to put into this yes
also, I don't know how wide the stripes are supposed to be so I can't give an official estimate, sorry /:

These were a solid two bottles and a smaller one
(I ended up buying three, but the rest of it was for other reasons, the amount taken from the third one would just about equaled the smaller one though)

Very interesting process! I did it similar to the way of the one mentioned in the description... It actually gave me rather clean lines except in a few parts where I put too much paint on at a time!

Also I used blue pants and black paint which used a little less paint I think...

Haha, the point of this comment is that making his pants are a pain in the butt and I salute you
