Description
Since I got hold of a digital camera, I can finally take a picture of this little guy. I sculpted him a few years ago when I had an art history class. The assignment was to recreate a piece from our book. I chose "The Nightmare" by Fuseli. So, I tried my very best to render him in 3-D because I was so taken with him - and the artist's gorgeous work.If you get a chance, go look up that artist. He does very nice tenebrism (use of dark with only one light source to cause dramatic effects).
This piece is done in sculpy clay, baked and painted in acrylic - if I remember correctly. He stands roughly three inches high and is one complete piece - solid, no armature was used.

Thanks. Yes, I do so love that painting. *sighs* I also like one called "Prophetic Dream" but it might be by a different artist.

That is awesomely sweet. I love how it's stylized. Man, if I saw that at like, a hardware store, being sold as a garden gnome or something, I'd buy it and put it in my room like I did with that stone griffin I found XD

I love stone griffins and gargoyles. I think I was thinking a bit of that also when I made him. ^^
Thanks.

Ooh, you made something shiny!! He looks awesome, love the look on his face, still, like I said in my other comment, a little creepy @@; looks like he's sizing me up for dinner

Wow.. did you really make that? Nice ! I'm in ceramics, but I don't think I'd get that far in my designs. >.> It'd be cool though.

Yea, I did. ^^ Glad you like it.
I didn't make it in my sculpting class though, but I did do it for another class. I've found I like dry clay for what I like to do better than wet clay. Small detailed things seem to be easier to do in clay that isn't soggy and muddy. @_@

Yeah you're right, but in my ceramics class I'm to impatient. I'm making a coil vase, and it's losing shape because I don't wait until the seperate levels are dry enough to score and slip on. I ll just take a paddle to it !
