Description
At last, it's finally finishedYup, this is it, the project that I have been working on since February this year and now, after 8 months, it's finally complete
The project's main theme was to revive Maserati's famous mid-engined sports supercar, the Merak, which actually had a Citroen engine
Now that they are targeting more "NEW MASERATI" buyers by releasing less costly cars, such as the Kubang SUV and the Ghibli sedan, I certainly think the Italian supercar
manufacturer would be able to improve their brand image by revivng a classic from the past.
So please comment and tell me what you guys think about it, Thank you !

Nice work. The rear reminds me of the Lamborghini Aventador and the Ferrari Enzo / F430, the front as well as the entire car-design is very similar to that of the BMW i8. In the price range of a Jag F-type, Nissan 370 Z, Mercedes SLK "your" car would be a very attractive alternative and could find enough purchaser in order to be profitable, not to mention the image gain.
(As for the original Merak of the 70ies - this car did not use a Citroen-engine, in reality the Citroen SM was equipped with a Maserati-engine.)

sorry for my late reply, and yes, as Maserati is one of those brands, like Ferrari, which their aspect is focused entirely in "passion", the styling cues from the F430, Enzo and the Aventador was what I had in mind
Hmm, well, from the Top gear budget supercars episode, Jeremy Clarkson said that his 77 Merak (which he bought for 7k British Pounds) originally had a Citroen engine..

I don't want to be a smart-ass, but Citroen was the majority shareholder of Maserati in the late 60ies and early 70ies. In 1968 Citroen commissioned Maserati with the construction of a V6-engine. The constructor of this motor was Giulio Alfieri (design-engineer at Maserati). The Citroen SM made its debut on the Geneva Motor Show (Genfer Salon) in 1970 and was fitted with that engine. It was the first Gran Turismo of the company (Citroen). In 1972 the Maserati Merak appeared and it was also equipped with that motor - but in a drilled out version. Peugeot bought up Citroen in 1975 and sold Maserati to Alessandro de Tomaso. The Merak (from now on Merak SS) was slightly reworked, 100 kg lighter and the engine delivered 30 hp more than its predecessor - the original Merak version. In 1976 Maserati additionally offered the Merak with a 2,0 litre version exclusively for the Italian market.Β

let me guess, it's going to have the Ghibli's Twin Turbo V6? if so, that's going to be glorious.Β
the 8 months were worth it.

thanks, and yes, the detuned 335 bhp V6 to rival the Cayman, and thanks

fair enough, it needs a suspension that will have to go toe to toe with the Cayman R. infact, put the 458 Italia as its benchmark.Β
you should consider a 600hp version, built by Cosworth and call it the Merak Stradale Corsa or the Merak MC-6. complete with the trademark Maserati blue and white combo.

Well I can't do anything about the enigneering, as I am just a designer, but I guess yeah. A Stradale Corsa or a Merak MC6,

hey, the guys who designed the Miura were both designers and engineers as well back in the 60's. same with the people who came up with the Jaguar E-Type.
you can be both if you know your shit, which you do, Jeremy.

I don't know, I mean, technology has advanced greatly, and back then, automobiles weren't as complex as the cars we have now, so that's why those guys were both managers/designers/engineers
but now, with technolgy getting more advanced day by day and with more things to learn, I think I should stick solely to designing/styling and let someone else do the tuning/engineering.
The only people who have successfully managed to do both engineering/designing are Horacio Pagani and Christian Von Koenigsegg but I don't know, and I have absolutely NO PLANS to start my OWN BUSINESS (SUPER RISKY) but work for a large comapany

that's cool
i never feel that Maserati get the press they deserve, their sister brand seems to take that away from them, but still nicely done

yeah, and with Ferrari releasing the F12 Berlinetta and the LaFerrari, it's even more competitive than ever. It's no wonder why some rich people consider Maseratis as "poor man's Ferrari'
BUT THEN, "NO" POOR MAN CAN AFFORD THE $150,000 GRANTURISMO COUPE

Just out of curiosity: are/were you working for the automotive industry?Β Because something this beautiful and amazing couldn't have taken a mere 8 months to design.

This took 8 MONTHS!?!? THIS is REALLY awesome!!!
It would be awesome if this concept of yours would be seriously produced!
Who knows what its New Pricetag would be

toyonda In reply to Shelby-3000 [2013-10-15 08:49:13 +0000 UTC]
hehe, thanks, and considering that its a rival to the Porsche Cayman, it would probably be around $65,000-$80,000
