Description
I'm really, really sorry about the lack of update, guys. Struggling a lot with the comic lately.I put this panel process rundown together for Draw! recently, though, and even though it's not very exciting, I figured at least it's something I could share in the meantime.
This process has gotten vastly more complicated since I started working on Lackadaisy. Pages used to be almost 100% pencil with just a little sepia tone added digitally. Now, after penciling, a panel often requires hours of additional work. (Put 12 or 15 panels together per page, and it adds up to at least part of the reason I fail so hard at regular updates.)
------------------
Other Lackadaisy stuff is here . Twitter and Facebook announce site updates too.

This is such a wonderful and informative breakdown. Β Thank you for this! Β I tried this technique because I just love the results in your comic. Β Your black and white is just gorgeous! But I see what you mean about how long it takes. Β I didn't even come close to the detail you do and it still took a very long time. Β I don't think I mastered that lovely sepia tone you always achieve.

In step 3, did you color them normally and then just desaturate it, or did you just color it in gray scale?

What I want to know is how you get such clean, detailed pencils! Whenever I sketch things with any amount of detail at all it ends up a huge mess. Do you use a lightbox to make a cleaner version, or are you just normally that awesome? (Some people are. I've got a friend who does super-detailed but very clean pencil sketches. I don't understand it.)

...I hearby demand that your works of art be less awesome. So that I there will be a proper word in the the English language for it.
xD
Seriously, your skill for detail and shading is off the charts - full stars ^^

First off, this is exactly the kind of thing that us journal junkies, those who want to pour over your sketchbooks, love to see. Not because we think we're ever going to apply this broad effort into our own works (I'm a writer for God's sake!) but because we really want to know what you do and how you do it... what kind of efforts go into telling us a story we've come to be drawn so deeply within. Second, having seen it, and knowing that you could have easily stopped at step three, and left us as impressed if we did not know... Well!
Superb! The details, the lighting, the reflections in the windows (who thinks of that?), the whole feel! Listen to me breathe a deep contented sigh and I hope you know how very much I appreciate what you have delivered to us. Aplogize not for lack of update... even the Earth was not given to us for admiration in a single day.
