4 years ago, Stephen Hillenburg, creator of the very popular Nickelodeon series, SpongeBob SquarePants, passed away due to an ALS diesese.

Before creating SpongeBob, Steve would work as a marine biologist and then went on to work on Rocko's Modern Life. While working on Rocko, he combined his love for drawing and his love for sea life, and SpongeBob SquarePants was born. Though SpongeBob was originally going to be called SpongeBoy, but they had to change it due to that name being claimed by a mop product.

On May 1st, 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants is finally released into the world. The cartoon made everyone laugh with the sponge's silly antics with his friends, whether he was practicing karate with Sandy, working at The Krusty Krab, or just hanging out his best friend, Patrick. The show was deemed successful with Nickelodeon.

By the time The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie was released in 2004, Steve wanted the show to end after 3 seasons, but Nickelodeon wanted more of the sponge, so Steve left, but came back 11 years later, in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water.

Unfortunately, in 2017, Steve announced that he has ALS, and on November 26, 2018, he passed away. Crew members and fans of the show were deeply saddened by this loss. In fact, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run was dedicated him. Steve was a joyful person and wanted people to know marine life is just as important as land life. His cartoon sparked joy all around the world, and it all wouldn't have been possible without Steve.
