Description
I made this to demonstrate the problem with Anthropomorphic trains. I came up with my own theory that the trains where pretty much sentient beings, but they needed a computer system of some sort to run themselves and communicate with humans. (none of that 'sparkle, sparkle BS from Thomas) However, computers and coal dust don't mix very well, so occasionally the system crashes and the locomotives shut down, as #2 Cheese demonstrates to a crowd of steam engines.I couldn't get Starbucks's face right, so, he is the one without a face on the far left. Next up is #2 Cheese, experiencing a 'face error'. #87 is Jolly Roger, a 2-10-0 of my own design, who is getting a kick out of Cheese's failure. And on the far right is 'Old 97,' who is constantly annoyed with every fiber on the face of the Earth.

For my universe idea of how trains come to life, it was from alien rocks found in a meteorite of bizarre origin that humans used to bring machines like trains and other vehicles to life.

Nice study and pic
Day In the life of a digital locomotive
Makes sense with computer and dust make for bad bedfellows - though no doubt improvement could be made but even so a crew is always a good idea

That is why you still need a crew. I hate the episodes of Thomas were there is no crew or they are there but do nothing.
The Rev. Awdry would be rolling over in his grave.

Well, Thomas isn't supposed to be realistic (anymore at least). People rant on and on about how unrealistic Thomas is and how this, this, and this is all wrong, but when is the last time we saw a train with a face outside of Day Out with Thomas? I will say that I disagree with what HiT has turned my childhood into, but there isn't much I can do to change their minds. They aren't bringing back the models, they aren't going to hire someone who actually knows how to run a railway, and chances are they already like their writers (no matter how terrible they are) so the chances of them hiring new ones are very unlikely.
And I agree, we definitely still need crews to run trains, screw PTC!
