Duncan encounters one of america's ghostly and mysterious ghost engines the ghost train of marshall pass from colorado. Granite rio grande 168 was visiting sodor on the skarloey railway and told the narrow gauge engines about an engine who crashed at marshall pass and he said it was one of his brother's. The engine had no name only a number 167 engine 167 had crashed and derailed and fell down the canyon and was damaged beyond repair and scrapped. duncan thought the story was nonsense but granite told him it was true because a engineer saw the ghost engine too. granite told the skarloey engines the line up to marshall pass is now abandoned but engine 167 haunts the narrow gauge tracks of america spreading his story and warns them of a danger on the line but duncan did not believe granite.

one night duncan was taking a slate train across the old iron bridge but as he was half way across he heard a unfamiliar whistle that sounded american then in the mist duncan saw where the whistle came from: it was the ghost of marshall pass!

duncan and his driver were horrified and the ghost of 167 stared at them coldly with it's headlamp shining at them.

duncan and his driver race back to the yard and told granite what they saw and granite told duncan that story he told was far too real.

duncan hoped granite would talk to his brother and help him lay to rest.
