When I was little I used to pretend to be an animator for Disney and I my job was to come up with new twists/character designs for new fairytales. So I decided to do that on DA. What if Disney made ___ as an animated feature? What might the characters look like?This is Gerta, heroine of "The Snow Queen". Gerta is a strong heroine in that she's one of the only girls i know of (in original fairytales) who goes on a journey to save the dude (her friend Kay).

Four and a half years later, "Gerta" became more popular than ever thanks to Disney. Β Wait a second, why did they use the name Elsa? Β Did the name Gerta do poorly with the test audiences?

True! I am wondering about that! I feel like Gerta would have been the "Anna" character.Β I always liked how The Snow Queen was the only original fairytale where the girl saved the boy.Β (It is Gerta who goes on the quest to rescue Kai).Β However, I did like the sisters theme and it certainly worked well for Disney!

If you pardon me. Disney already had them like Anna and Elsa under the title of Frozen. Well this looks like an early concept of Anna or Gerta.

I love Frozen but I really like the original Snow Queen story as well.

I still think "The Snow Queen" is better than Frozen since Gerda saves Kai. Plus the Snow Queen isn't really a villain she's just there.

I love Frozen but I always thought the "Snow Queen" story was so different than the other fairy tales as the heroine actually saves the male protagonist and the romance started as a strong friendship (instead of love at first sight).Β Β Also, I recall both characters being "commoners" -no prince or princess!

I know well the Heroine in East of the Sun, West of the moon saves her husband too. So there another fairy tale with girl saving guy.

I've been hearing news about Disney trying to do the Snow Queen, but it's been shelf on and off I don't know the exact release date (Wikipedia said it will come out in 2013, but I'm not sure now).

What would The Queen look like and who do you think should voice her?

Thats a good question! I would want her to look icy, but not too much like the Narnia queen. I would need to think of a way to make her look original. The kids in the story from what I recall-are childhood best friends, not siblings, though there may be alternate versions! In my version, it would start off with their childhood. The heroine, Gerta, embarks on her journey as a little girl and returns as a teenager.

i think there was some sort of live action version of this that i loved as a kid. It would be awesome if Disney did this story!
