Well you know, when you think about it, this would be an actually legitimate and functional tactic for keeping the princess safe and allowing link to infiltrate ganon's fortress undetected.
Assuming he could escape from the cell/crystal/whatever ganon traps her/him in.
Not to mention it would be fun if this actually happened in a game at one point
