It's so strange, from elementary school to high school, people become more and more concerned about what people like and don't like while shunning people who don't fit into their mold. I'm guessing over their own fears about fitting that norm (easier to denounce someone else and get the attention off themselves than own up to their own lack of conformity). It's funny that people strive to be unique by attempting to be a clone of everyone else...
Then college hits and, for the most part, everyone throws off their chains and realizes that they can be who they want to. I proudly wore a My Little Ponyta shirt that a buddy of mine got at ACen for me. Many loved it, those who didn't made a joke of it, but in a "Chris, why are you so silly?" way as opposed to a "you are such a loser..." way.
I have fallen under the spell of cuteness as well as many of my friends with our masculinity fully intact. It seems a good portion of people are afraid they can't do the same. Wait it out as best you can, they will figure it out in their own time... or not, but we can hope.

I just re read this and wanted to add that there are people that "get it" all through school. It just seems that they are in fewer numbers before college and can be a bit harder to find, but they do exist, thankfully.
