Description
Jae (small kid) and Warren (big dude) are characters in my story Dumpling.

One of the first things Warren tried in order to get Jae to feel more comfortable with him was to teach Jae chess. But Jae was never able to beat Warren and because he’s more stubborn than a mule, his anxiety was replaced by petty competitiveness and it became their ‘thing’. Jae’s only beaten Warren three times and two of those times were when Jae was still small and due to Warren deliberately throwing the game to give Jae a bit of a confidence booster. Jae’s become a fairly competent player in his teenage years and their games are more of an equal footing. So Warren doesn’t throw games anymore and is becoming a bit more competitive himself.
