I think I have finally sufficiently played enough RUST to give a proper review.
Rust is part of the budding survival game Genres along with Day Z and 7 Days to Die. If you wonder what a survival game is, it's like Minecraft but more of a focus on surviving and less on crafting.

You start out dropped onto a nearly deserted wasteland with nothing but a rock, a torch, and some bandages. In this stage, the optimal thing is to build a stone axe (Which is harder than it looks), find pigs to eat, get some wood, build a shelter, cook it up, and eat up. Seems easy enough right? wrong. It took me 3 times to successfully do this. Its very hard and the game is unforgiving.

But that's the fun with it.

You see, running around with a shotgun and an assault rifle is fun but its when you get killed is really interesting. you've lost all your stuff and suddenly someone's on your death list.

Did I say there were guns? yes to all you fans of guns out there, there are guns. You have to craft them yourself though and you can't do this without a furnace. It took me forever to learn how to get the right stuff for a furnace and by the time I did, I was several hours into the game.

Not to mention, and please keep in mind, THIS IS NOT A FEATURE AND ITS NOT REQUIRED, you see people out there making tribes, banding together under a single flag, a single base, sharing resources and fighting off the forces of evil. It's a great idea. It's also interesting in a sociological aspect. I don't know these people. I could easily run upstairs, take all the weapons, come downstairs, kill them in their sleep and run off with the resources. But I don't. I feel compelled to stand with these folks. That's the really interesting thing.

Unfortunately, I stopped playing for a while because of my shamefulness. A couple guys were shit talking me and shooting at me with bows and arrows and I whipped out my shotgun and failed to hit them. and wasted a full clip... and got killed... and none of my allies want to avenge me. I believe this emotion is called... Butt hurt?

This game is in its last stages of alpha and may be moving to beta soon. but if you wanna pick it up now, you can! its 19.99 on steam right now under the early access games. I highly recommend this game for its unforgiving nature and its way to not seem to let me leave it alone. It is still in alpha, of course, which means the game is riddled with glitches and things that shouldn't be happening. Its charming and, dare I say, its fun. And remember, it's not shameful to look up a guide for your first time.

However it is shameful to unload a shotgun and miss on a guy that has a bow and arrow.
