He is an original character for Star Wars. He was a prototype that was built to fulfill the Role of General of the CIS droid fleets and armies. Due to the fact that Grievous was chosen, he was instead placed directly under Count Dooku as a Black asset.

Each bolt must be the purest of gold and yet is still the sturdiest it can be. Each hand engraved with miniature representations of fine works of art otherwise, they're worthless.
