What, he stepped into 'Gamma World'?  Oh, boy! Our party got sent there once and my assassin got de-evolution-ed into an Australopithecus for the duration of the game.  Then we got sent into a passel of video game settings that had us really running for out lives!

Love her shield device.

Love seeing the Gamma World reference. To those unfamiliar the chicken mutant is a Gallus Gallus.

I remember Gamma World. Knights of Genetic Purity, etc. And its predecessor, Metamorphosis Alpha (based on Brian Aldiss' 1958 novel, Starship -- UK version was entitled Non-Stop).

When you get an incredible character the DM did not foresaw.

This was perhaps the best part of gaming in the late seventies early eighties. Nobody knew what the limits were so we let our imagination run wild made of some crazy stuff. Then Gygax came a long and told everyone we were doing it wrong.

Amen to that. Models were just a guide. I would say that 99% of the games we played were of our own design and we totally revamped Gnomes and magic casting rules. Granted I am seeing a lot of Homebrew stuff now but its still in the boundaries of d20

It one of those things that's hard to get across to young gamers today. When table top role play first took off there wasn't a consensus on anything. There wasn't a 'community' larger a crowd at the local gaming story in most cases. People and group made things and got on with having fun with there friends. The ground rules hadn't been invented yet.
