Description
I had been meaning to read 'The Hunger Games' for a while when I finally saw the trailer to the upcoming movie. It looked awesome and finally convinced me to pick up the book; 'cause even though it was the trailer the finally got me to check it out, I wanted to be able to read it and use my own imagination instead of replaying the movie in my head as I read, as was the case with a certain young British wizard.I was instantly hooked and devoured the entire series in no time. (I finished Mockingjay just yesterday.) I pretty much knew instantly that I had to do some fan art, and I wanted to do it soon before it became required by Fan Art Law that that I draw all the characters as they appear in the movie instead of how they did in my head- again, like a certain young British wizard. (So before anyone complains that they don't look like Young Mystique or Hotel For Dogs, I remind you this is MY vision of them, thank you very much.)

TravisTheGeek, you have made a friend today. This is really, supremely well done. And I'm with you about reading the books first. I saw Eragon before I read it and it ruined the whole fandom for me. Fantastic job.

Nice fire! I think you understood what I was trying to tell you pretty well. This looks great, Travis. Nice job.

Thank you so much! Yeah, I think some of what you said seems to have sunk in. lol As I'm sure you noticed, this drawing is more or less a what's what of everything we discussed. As for the fire, the warp stage was a little tricky and I still had to smudge it just a little bit to get it how I wanted, but I'm pretty satisfied with it for a first attempt. Thanks again for the excellent lesson!

You're pretty much in the exact boat I'm in. I've known about the books since around 2008 (I think) when a couple people on a forum I was on mentioned them. But the title did not sound appealing and I knew nothing of the story. Until now, when I heard about the film, and decided to read it. I probably won't see the film at all, as I too disliked how HP took over everyone's mind (including my own in some places).
I'm only on the first one though Page 299 to be exact.
I enjoy seeing original versions of characters (in HP as well as here.) Maybe somebody should start a group for book illustrations as opposed to movie ones.

The great thing about imagination vs. movies is our imaginations have unlimited budgets, perfect special effects, and you can cast whoever you want!
Enjoy the books! I think the first may have been my over-all favorite, but the whole series is pretty darn great. Catching Fire (book 2) had some particularly great moments, IMO.

Agreed! I've always liked "my" versions a thousand times better than any film.
I just finished the first, and it was great. I'll probably go and pick up the next two sometime today, I can't wait to get through them
