Description
Travis is a big blue tank engine, who lives on the Tipperton Railway. He has six big wheels, and four small wheels. Travis has a short stumpy funnel and a short stumpy dome. His blue paint has white stripes, and on his water tank, the numbers seven, six, one and two are painted in bright yellow. Travis is a lazy engine, and often leaves his work till late at night, when everyone else is fast asleep.Hello everyone! My name is TravisTheNightEngine, and this is my first ever post! This character here is my main character, and my own personal representation. I plan on writing and illustrating a few short stories based around a fictitious railway known as "The Tipperton Railway". The stories will take place in Scotland, in the very late 1920's. Just after the big four were created in 1923, but well before British Railways took over. These stories will be called "The Tipperton Tales" and will feature a recurring cast of four engines, including Travis.
As for Travis, well here are some basic stats and information. He is based on a Nigel Gresley V1 Tank Engine, built circa 1928. He is technically of the LNER, despite his colour. Which I plan on explaining later, within the stories. His service number is 7612, which to be honest, I thought was accurate to his model, until I discovered that number belonged to a Jinty Tank Engine. I suspect people will be calling me on the fact he's blue more than that though.
Please, feel free to let me know what you think! I'm just starting out. Call me rubbish, leave me feedback, give me tips!
I hope to hear from you soon.
Travis.

I like the shade of blue used. Paired with his face, it seems to give him a sleepy demeanor.
However, I will agree with NE-Railway-Artist about the foliage.
However, a very good work.

Hey Can I ask you a question? I'm asking everyone what their favorite narrow gauge stories for my project. Which are your favorites and which narrator do you like?

He's simple-looking, and the way his body sits on his wheels does look a little bit odd to me, but I like the simplicity of the character.
I agree with NE-Railway-Artist about the foliage- too jungley. Reminds me more of Hawaii than a scene from the UK. Otherwise I like this, and I loook forward to hearing more about Travis, and perhaps about the other 3 engines you mentioned.

Alrighty, you wanted a critique, so here goes...
The general 'look' of the piece is effective, but a number of things become apparent when you look at it a little longer.
For example, the engine seems to sit a little too low on its wheels, and the valve gear is rather basic. It can be a pain to do, but with a little work the valve gear would really make it look like a proper engine.
The 'body' of the engine is alright, if a little squashed up, and the buffers and their beam seem a bit too big. The main issue here is it looks very 'Thomas'- I suggest perhaps moving away from the 'Thomas' look to give your characters a bit more individuality- I know we'll never escape the whole 'IT'S THOMAS' thing, but it'd be nice to try!
The background and scene look a little 'jungle' like to me, rather than an english line. Perhaps a little work on researching british trees, hedges etc would help here.
This is just a few points I can see, but for a first effort this is extremely good, and I hope you carry on with your work.
