Description I have not submited any work here in about four month's.
In truth I went at least three month's without picking up a camera to shoot any personal work.
Just frustrated about the current state of photography, is there really any point. Is there any real future to the medium?
Don't even get me started on DA. I was going to give up this street stuff, to concentrate more on Fashion and portraits, but a recent trip to Kerry got me shooting some of it again.

Anyway Just saw I got DD and I might as well get going on some recent rolls I developed.

Kodak tri-x pushed+2. 35mm Lens.

There are numerous art forms in Indonesia with each having only less than 10 craft masters struggling to pass it to the next generation. They are not giving up. You shouldn't, too.

Congratulations for being the best president we've had in a while, Obama. I just hope you've figured out how stupid we all are by now and are getting out as soon as you can.

I really wouldn't worry about it too much.

Those who can see the world clearly and who know how to share what they see will always be in demand.

The technology being available to everybody only means that people, through their own experiences in trying to use cameras and such, will come to recognize and appreciate those who use that technology with skill and artistry. It always takes work and patiently acquired skill to do something of excelling quality.

Think of it this way; Everybody can form words and speak, we all have the 'technology' of vocal cords, but there is still an appreciation for those who use them well. We call those people actors, singers and comedians.

oh boy... i have worked as a liberian and still work in a paper based job... so i wonder the same. but maybe it is not the point in general, it is more like the personal point and you made of it for yourself?
anyways, since you took the photo long ago, this may not be actual any longer... so oh well.
about the photo... nowadays is seems a bit reflective of how the euphoric has been about him before some years... and now with your comment in mind i wonder where is the point or the future of politics?
but wait i am losing focus again. i like the motive as well as the situation. nothing too special (what is nothing bad for a street snapshot) but still a nice capture, but i have seen better photos of you... no offense or else.

Great photo. Don't give up on your art. I'm a DJ and that type of art is always being watered down by laptop DJs who just play what their friends want to hear at a party with no sense of art or vision about it. I spend hours finding the most beautiful tracks and arrangements to share with my audience and then here comes some dude playing from his iTunes list. I totally understand the frustration and questioning oneself about where is this going? But, my friends remind me all the time, you DJ for you and create what makes you happy.

I try to stay positive, but I can't help getting upset at the way things are headed.

By far that image is now my most popular 1200 favs, but it no longer represents where I'm at, if I had taken it this week it would have ended up on my edited pile. Most of the images in my gallery that are deemed "popular" I actually think are my weakest and cliched. But the attention is nice.

This on the other hand I do feel is better.

i know what you mean. I worry about the same thing. All we can do is hope for the best. I hope you don't quite street photography though as you and harmonist are two of my favorite street photographers. You have a gift my friend. It'd be a shame to not use it.

Is there any real future to life itself?

Things start to decay from the moment they're created.

Maybe you're just thinking about it too much, I don't think you should give up because you see fractures in the foundation. I doubt you'd give up Street to focus on Fashion. Not only would you feel like an arse for doing such a thing, but you'd look like one too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Treamus In reply to eyeseewell [2009-09-03 23:24:29 +0000 UTC]

In the broader scale of things, yes we could be extinct in 50 years, but I'll concentrate on the now.
When a medium is being practiced now by Grannies and even dogs it's freshness can be somewhat tainted. Most people think I'm an arse for sticking with this stuff.
Considering one path has groupies and the other doesn't, not like I'm shallow or anything

eyeseewell In reply to Treamus [2009-09-04 12:02:24 +0000 UTC]

The only thing that should matter is the feeling you get out of striving for something, satisfaction included or not.

It's a good question about medium itself.

As I see it, in long term printed media will die. And probably few things with it. Maybe photography.

But according to Worldpress photo... Sure, New era has begun, but photojournalism is very healthy.

Treamus In reply to kmetjurec [2009-09-01 23:12:17 +0000 UTC]

I think fine art photography will be around forever, but as regards the craft side of things like Journalism, I think the future is video tape in HD, and grab the stills later.

When I was 16 walking around town with a camera, It was a strange hobby for a boy to have. Now everyone walks around with a DSLR or cameraphone, kind of dilutes the whole point.

defiancetotale In reply to Treamus [2009-09-02 08:25:52 +0000 UTC]

But we're still doing something quite different to all those people. It's just that they don't know it..

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

defiancetotale [2009-09-01 20:09:58 +0000 UTC]

Why would there not be a future? The mainstream is only going to get worse, yes, but there will always be great photographers. It's getting harder to make a living off photojournalism. I'm worried about it. There might be compromises involved, having to shoot other things on the side.

Treamus In reply to defiancetotale [2009-09-01 23:22:48 +0000 UTC]

I think Fine art and weddings are stable, they will be around for a while, as for everything else, well it's yet to be seen.

Too many monkeys not enough peanuts.
