Description
This is my first try at shooting from the hip, probably won't be the last. I guessed the distance at 16 feet, set the focus and started shooting, got a variety of people and characters passing by, but I liked this the most. The only people that noticed me taking pictures, were a group of gypsy's.
Reminds me of this. [link]

Thanks, it's one of my very rare digital street shots.

Shooting from the hip is a great way of taking street candids, if you don't mind a lot of duds. This one's a corker.

Yes in leads to a lot of waste especially shooting film. Although 3 months ago I purchased a Nikon f3 (made in 1979) which has a detachable view finder that can project the image to the top of the camera, so you can shoot from the hip and actually see what the camera is viewing. In my opinion one of the best SLR's for shooting street ever made.

Digital might almost have been made for street photography. I did do some sight-unseen work in old film days, but I'm much more happy-go-lucky about it now. I haven't tried with a movable viewfinder, but I don't think I'd feel quite right with it - I like to seem to be looking elsewhere entirely, or nowhere in particular. I also quite like the feel you get in shots taken blind and on the move: [link] & [link]

wonderful! what a shot. i'm terrified of shooting from the hip, bit of a perfectionist some times. must try it though.

It's easy once you get the hang of it.

Niiiice. Very clever catch. Good eye, and the title is perfect.

Great photo. I like the contrast between all of the colors and how the subject's motion matches the background so well. Really good capture.

Thanks, I had to wait about 30 minutes to get it right.
