Description
I watched this fella wiggle and jump for 10 minutes before he made it up. Once there, however, he seemed a bit disappointed by the lack of excitement. 0.oHoly smokes! My first DD!

This was taken in Santa Cruz, California on one of my vacation trips.
No, the sea lions are not dead
They like to sleep on the lower docks near the piers.Thanks to trevg for the feature!

They're just asleep, as someone else mentioned. As for their coats, I'm guessing that they're just molting. Seals and sea lions have weird molting patterns; in fact, some of them even molt the entire top layer of their skin at the same time, lol.

He's just looking around, wondering what happened to everyone and did it take him so long that everyone fell asleep.
Poor thing.
We don't have this in BC where I live since all the sea lions are on the Island or further away from the mainland. So to see these guys en mass like this in a sleeping pile is wonderfully hilarious. The poor little one just looks like he's wondering what he should do next!

i love how the big male is lying there. That made me laugh.
i always love seeing all the sea lions on the beaches of cape cod when i go there.
Allot of it is untouched by people and so wild. these guys are everywhere when i go there, and you can walk right up to them and they dont care...most of the time.

They got pretty agressive in other areas, having male testosterone-driven standoffs for the best sleeping spots

when ever i see them get angry, allot of times i cant take them seriously because they try to run after each other but they are too fat to move quick enough.
its still a cool sight to see all of them together like that

looks to me like all the other sea lions are sleeping.
when i go to some beaches in the summer i go were there are no people but thousands of these guys and they are always sleeping in massive piles like that on the shores.
