Again some aerial detective work:
Not too much can be said about the individual aircraft. Β Joe Baugher's site notes 125683 as a McDonnell F2H-2P Banshee, but has no details on its service.
(The McDonnell Aircraft Company only merged with Douglas in 1967).
The camouflage shows this to be in the latter half of the 1950s - the Navy abandoned its overall Navy Blue livery from February 1955 onwards, although some aircraft retained this livery until the late-1950s.
The tail codes, however, offer a very usable clue: the "GA" tail code was applied in 1957 to Light Photographic Squadron 62 (VFP-62); the squadron had previously been known as VC-62 (Composite Squadron 62), but had been renamed on July 2nd 1956. Β The unit exchanged its F2H-2Ps for Vought F8U-1P Crusaders in 1959, so the picture can be dated to sometime between 1957 and 1959.
So: McDonnell F2H-2P Banshee, VFP-62, 1957-1959.
