BEGINNINGS 1998 - 2001
Out of the Stunticons, BREAKDOWN has been the trickiest to render to my satisfaction (well, now that I think of it, he may actually lose that spot to DEAD END when all is said and done). Part of the reason behind the difficulty I have is his being afforded few close-ups in the cartoon and his helmet's colours being so dark that the lines are made scarcely distinguishable from the rest of his appearance. I did think a couple of attempts at rectifying the shortcomings of the very first try helped a little, but the best effort was by far the last of this time period. I liked that one for quite a while.
SECOND WIND 2007 - 2012
I would say the true challenge of BREAKDOWN is the helmet, that odd "staircase" nature of the lateral head guards being one of the biggest stumbling blocks I have encountered overall. The colour choices his creators made were perhaps not the most fortunate, either -- so dark as to make shading more tedious since especially red is one of those colours less straightforward to transpose to brighter or darker shades in the Microangelo™ application. But experience always helps and his size has also seen a much needed increase; those two elements have significantly helped his refinement. The 2009 re-colour was already getting him close before I thought the 2012 version might be as close to perfect as I would ever need, but now, with one last go at him, I believe my search for the final touch has been completed.
