BEGINNINGS 1996 - 1999
POWERGLIDE is another avatar based on the old sheet of ballpoint pen head shots I did around 1986 or '87 and first came into the world of Microangelo™ before I upgraded my graphics card. Looking at that first 16-colour icon now, I find it surprisingly passable for what it was. Subsequent reworks showcased more nuanced colours and a much better-defined helmet, arriving at a plane by 1999 (aided and abetted by a new pencil sketch) that proved a fair-enough springboard for future revamps.
SECOND WIND 2007 - 2009
This prime example of aeronautical engineering (he certainly thinks so) is a very good example of how some characters simply have to have a bit of size to stand a chance at visual authenticity. Because his head basically is the nosecone and cockpit of his jet mode with a face, it is rather oblong and completely defies the standard Windows™ 32x32 format. Breaking out of that helped me out in this period, enough that very little is different from the 2007 to 2009 versions. The change was far greater in 2011 -- and I really got luck with it. So lucky, in fact, that I see no need to update him again -- unless I one day get into vector graphics.
