LIFESPAN
SEASON ONE - SEASON TWO - THE MOVIE
BEGINNINGS 1998 - 2000
I have always very much liked the way REFLECTOR looks, and while he was never a prominent character on the cartoon, I was glad to see him featured enough to get a good idea of his features. Along with characters like RUMBLE, GALVATRON, and CYCLONUS, REFLECTOR is notable for having a hard-to-duplicate colour scheme. They all have variations of bluish-grey with a hint of violet that I had to compose especially in Microangelo™, a most time-consuming and ultimately unsatisfying task. If I were doing it now, a decade and a half later, I might come closer, because I have learned how RGB works over time. Most challenging detail: That "mohawk" thing on the top of his head.
SECOND WIND 2007 - 2011
Even without the aforementioned knowledge, the colour picker and RGB or hexadecimal code do wonders for this kind of work. So screen captures (despite a not-bad reference sketch I drew around 1998) turned out to be particularly necessary in his case. Regardless, something about REFLECTOR made him just hard enough to do justice to that it took many more efforts to satisfy my standards as I got better at it. He is one of the more apt examples of my evolution as a pixel artist. The growth is clear from iteration to iteration and pleases me to see.
