BEGINNINGS 1998 - 2000
I originally perceived this permutation of SLUDGE -- a sleeker, slightly more intelligent-looking design update first seen in WAR OF THE DINOBOTS -- as the only design, not noticing the difference between his depiction in S.O.S. DINOBOTS and this one. I guess it was because it was not as obvious a change as we sat in GRIMLOCK's countenance. There is even a third modulation of his looks that appeared in certain second-season, parts of which snuck into my original attempts at this one.
SECOND WIND 2007 - 2011
This version of SLUDGE is the one I kind of cut my teeth on, taking years to bring forth the undiluted WAR OF THE DINOBOTS version, which I prefer out of the three variations I have seen. This is probably the most forgiving look to capture in icon form as well, simply because his lines are less characterized by curvature. The only reason there are so many turns at this one is my persistent confusion of his several visages that only began the road to resolution in 2007 and finally reached that destination in 2009. From then on, the delineations were clear, leaving me to punch up and refine SLUDGE to his present state.
