Angelo comes across as a mature young man, with an air of inexperience, but a good, strong heart. He's rather straight-laced and a little shy at first, but breaking through his outer shell can reveal a considerate and dependable friend. He tends to bottle up negative emotions and can keep himself in check despite his irritability... although he can also keep grudges for a very long time.
History:
Just before The Great Depression of the 1930s, Angelo's family was one of the many Filipinos who immigrated to the US for labour. His mother tried to keep him in school for as long as possible, but when he turned 16, he left school to follow his father and work as a sailor, so he could help provide for the family, especially for his younger siblings.
However, stepping out into the real world, he faced many difficulties - the main issue being racism. Although other Asian Americans all experienced racism, it became even worse during the depression as Americans sought to drive out Asian American labourers - Filipinos being one of the main targets as they were colonial subjects who could move freely between the US and the Philippines, and due to this Filipino immigration was the highest amongst the others.
Seeing his father being mistreated and ridiculed every day they were out at sea filled him with rage and resentment towards Americans. It frustrated him even more that there was nothing he could do about it or risk losing both their jobs and so swallowed his hatred as darkness filled his heart.
His father often kept him grounded, often kept him praying to the Lord. He was a good, kind-hearted Catholic, and even though he was taller than his father, Angelo looked up to him. But even so, Angelo could not understand his father's faith in God. The more his father spoke of the Lord, the more of Angelo's hatred became misdirected - if He was so good, then why did He let such a good man like his father suffer so much?
...
It was out at sea when it happened. The ship was caught in an extremely heavy storm, and he was washed away by the waves into the depths of the ocean.
Extra:
Like his namesake artist, he is fond of drawing and keeps a small notebook with him where he sketches in during his downtime. It's mostly life drawings.
