Description
Felt pen lineart, mouse, Paint Shop Pro. 20 hours."The first attacks by the Fanoran assassins were catastrophic and horrid. Even Buroba does not dare try to recall what had happened. After much turmoil, the Keid gathered from all the villages and erected a stone fortress called Daarbang on the edge of the jungle and the pine forest that led to the mountains. This fortress was designed to allow the Keid to spot any approaching Fanoran and to stop them before they reached the jungle. Daarbang was a huge success for a long time.
Mother Gehmakemn despised this fortress, and so she sent one of her six infamous sons in to assassinate the fortress's commander in hopes that it would force the Keid to abandon the mighty structure. This son was known as Meheral, and he succeeded in murdering Daarbang's commander, though he was shot through the neck afterwards, thus dying painfully. Though this infuriated Gehmakemn, she was overall pleased that the Keid indeed ran from the fortress, thinking it was too close to the mountains to give them enough time to prepare. There were also powerful rumours that Meheral's ghost haunts the ruins, looking for Keid to unleash vengeance on." ~from [link]
And since I got such great feedback on my last set of questions, here's some more
- What was your very first reaction?
- What is your favourite minor detail?
edit: the lineart is here [link]

I believe I told you that I had a feeling of anticipation and concern when I first saw the drawing, and I still hold that. Something about both the composition and the color tones creates this mystic atmosphere while still bringing a really interesting focus to the Keid; I love it.
The way he's hiding in the shadows strikes a very stark contrast to the rest of the lighting in the drawing. It has a really interesting affect that I really like. Especially how that one beam of light is shining over his shoulder onto his skirt. (And, as always, the rim lighting is just awesome. XD)
My favorite minor details... that's tough. I really like the Keid's bracelet and skirt. But if that doesn't count, definitely the entrance. The detail in the columns surrounding the opening is very awesome.
One thing I really want to comment on is the abandoned state of the fortress. Normally when I see someone attempt to create ruins it always seems to fail in comparison to their goal. Either it's to over the top or too bland. This however is just amazing. I love how you can see the massive design and how it still really holds an intimidating appearance, but also manages to show how nature has taken it back in it's abandoned state. And all the while, it maintains a very unique beauty to it.
I felt like I didn't say enough about this when you were drawing it, so I think I've covered everything I failed to say the first time. (That epic tree is win, btw XD)

It is supposed to create a sort of beautiful unease, so I'm glad you feel that still ;D The beam of light over his shoulder was a last touch, but I'm glad I did it. Unfortunately, you can't see much of the original detail around the building. I'll have to submit the lineart! (like, now)
Thanks!

What was your very first reaction? Lookit that chest...
What is your favourite minor detail? All the little bricks, and probably the palm above his head (on the left) :3
I like how his face progressed. I'm really starting to love it more the more I look at it, like especially his lips and nose--so cute! The light falling on his shorts is so stunning, and a great addition I think. The rays of light in the background were very worth splitting the layer up. It's so pretty~

Yeah sometimes the best way to fix a face is just to shade it really well Thanks! But it's a skirt, not shorts~

It cant be. . . to get such supurb lighting and coloration, you'd have to actually go and visit such enviroments, especially with the soft screening light on the temple in the back. Also amazed with the amount of detail put into each brick and it's details; truely a magnificent ruin.

You know I reply to almost all my messages. I just haven't gotten around to replying yet, that's all. Don't be put off just because my replies aren't instant.
It also helps me separate those who reply truly because they love the drawing from those who just want a response.

My first impression was the light was so jungle like and the fort is so imposing with the jungle growing out of it.
My second was gee, that Keid is hot.
Fave small detail? the stonework and relief's on the fort followed by the Keid's rings and such.

My first reaction: WOW! The lines of definition really pop in this peice. I am used to your soft-edged style. This feels like a solid illustration- I imediatly felt that I was looking at a two-page book spread for an exciting story. Professional.
My fave detail is the vine growing over the tree branch. The small leaves really add texture and blend well with the background foliage.
Great job! RR

This is just breath taking. I think I ended up staring at it for about 10 minutes before realizing I was. My favorite minor detail would have to be the stones on the ground in the background. You always put so much detail into all of your pieces. Most people I know wouldn't have bothered to draw in every single stone, but you did. Im just amazed all the time.

This piece turned out really well. The lighting and the overall greeness makes it so much more mysterious and jungely. The Keid looks a little lost.
My very first reaction was wow and my favourite detial would have to be Meherals's ghost standing in the window.
Keep up the great work (:

My first reaction? It looked scary and intimidating, but I still wanted to see more...damn scarily curious ruins.
My favourite minor detail? The little vines growing on the tree. Dey must've taken forever.
Overall, I love this pic. Wish I was there and not under a tsunami of assignments...unless Mehral's spirit is there, then I'll take the assignments...

That's excellent! He blends in well with the background but he still stands out.. if you know what I mean..
Anyway, I love the background! It must have taken so long to do!
I also like his expression. Who's he looking at?
Anyway, I think the way you inserted those beams of light is very effective, it sorta makes the air look humid.
^_^ Great work! You keep improving!
