Description This is a collaborated effort between me and He was inspired by my mech and decided to make a futuristic tank model, which we then combined into this image.

I found the background image online, it's either Iraq or Lebanon, I forget which. I used it as the data for the ambient occlusion's color, and inserted it into the background as a backbuffer image. I positioned it so that it fit just right in the image, making it look like it was standing in the street, and then I added the energy beams.

made the tank in 3DS MAX and imposed it on top of the image.

The original image: [link]

used photoshop to get rid of the original tank and the person in the foreground, as well as to add te blue beam in the top corner.

super-good job on the shadows and lighting, but the beams need a touch of atmosphere to look realistic. As such they seem too flat.

I'm really impressed. You both did a really great job on those, and it's almost a seamless job incorporating them into the picture.

Yeah, his ended up being a little more seamless than mine, but that might be because mine is more prominent in the foreground. Anyway, thanks for the comment.

More seamless, but not as real looking

Yeah, max is good for the realistic but it's harder to use, Trekkie has passed my skill level in blender and he's been using it less than I have been using Max.

Blender, max, these mean nothing to me. I don't know any of those programs. Quality artwork? Yes, for sure.

Heh, yeah. Well, a 5 sec intro to each would be: 3D Studio Max is absurdly complex and is the kinda of program that movie studios use to make movies. Blender is a free program that does about the same but isn't quite as powerful (though for a free program it's pretty damn close).

Anyway, yeah, as far as quality I think this one came out quite well. We really put a lot of effort into this one.
