Description The year was 2265, and the Enterprise has returned from Delta Vega. Starfleet was anxious to go over the mission logs with Captain James T Kirk, butt there were others awaiting his return as well. Engineers, and work crews assigned at San Francisco Yards where the U.S.S. Enterprise would recieve it's first major refit.

Constitution Class mesh as well as the Dry dock provided by:
Rendered with DAZ 4.0
Postwork with Gimp 2.8

No the lens flares were my idea not J.J. Abrams.

First of all, I love the concept, taking the "Pilot" Enterprise. It's something I haven't seen much of. The composition or layout (not a prof. designer, just kind of have an eye, I've been told. Also, huge trekker) is excellent, nice balance that features the Enterprise as your focus, but doesn't lose the drydock in the mix.

If I may make a couple suggestions, to maybe bring out the potential in this piece:
First, it looks a bit flat to me. Maybe increase the contrast a bit? decrease the light on the drydock structure. Watching the movies with the dock, it never seemed to have as much direct general lighting as in this piece. Add some self illuminating spot lights maybe? I'd also consider maybe adding a rougher or matte texture to the dock... But I can also see how you may have been going for an Original Series very smooth look

Some of the same notes on the Enterprise herself, particularly the contrast around the dish to highlight the metallic dish material. I'd consider deepening the shadows, maybe add some scorching from her encounter with the Barrier. That's an artistic choice I would of course leave to your judgement.

I think your U.S.S. Federation pieces show a lot of what I'm thinking, especially with respect to the vessels themselves.

I of course mean these as completely constructive pieces of criticism. I love this piece and the cool concept behind it, but I think these are a couple ways you might improve the overall feel of the piece, give it that "wow" factor that makes an outstanding four star work into an ideal five star piece. I also know I couldn't match this piece in terms of proficiency with the tools you've used, never quite gotten the hang of GIMP, and could never quite get what I wanted out of 3D modeling and rendering programs. Great job, keep up the awesome work!

Thank you for taking the time.  I did this render particularly because this was the Enterprise I remembered.  Took me awhile just to notice the differences between the two models.  I believe I did this one before the Federation dry dock images.  I agree that tthe lighting is lacking and I can only blame myself as this laptop is really not up to the task of multiple shadows (Then again, all the drydock scenes have No shadows).  As for the Enterprise, I blame myself because I never tweaked it at that point.  If anything I added detail to the Deflector and nacelles, so that can explain for the flatness.  Also positioning as the scene was it Entering the the droydock, so 80% of the light was on the forward end.

Just to be clarify, the logs they were referring to are Pikes logs during his run I take it?

Looks really good. I was trying to figure out what they changed on her.

No, because Kirk was in command. he is returning from Delta Vega after his incident with Gary Mitchell.

I'm assuming this is perhaps a couple of years before the events in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". I believe your lense flares are a nice touch in this image. They add a sense of readiness for the task at hand. The Enterprise being the original configuration, is an elegant ship even in this configuration. The Space Dock looks almost exactly like the one from the first movie.
In my mind you have done a really nice job!

Check again my friend. That is years before then. 2265 shortly after the events at Delta Vega, which if you look real carefully, that is the Pilot version of the U.S.S. Enterprise (Taller ridge, Larger Deflector dish).

So the original configuration is the one from the Christopher Pike era. OK then. I do recall that pilot episode, "The Cage". Spock was more excitable, and the main view screen had rounded corners. A lot of the bridge equipment was different as well. The two actors that I can recall working through all the series including this pilot episode, are Majel Barrett (I may have that one spelled wrong) and Leonard Nimoy. The latter of those has play the same character throughout the many series and the movies.

Well the thing in, the second Pilot, Where No an has Gone Before. Kirk was the Captain of the same Enterprise with a slightly modern bridge.
