any userstyle that styles .gr-box (or any of it's parts) also hits journal skins. There isn't really a way around that, short of a lot of extra selectors (like, one for every possible gruze box that isn't journals, which is quite fragile, and not really practical)
As for the link...I have no idea what you're talking about. Looks fine to me.

True, but you could try to use pseudo classes to exclude them. Something along the lines of:
div:not(.journal) .gr.box
I know it's a bit more complex than this, but you get the idea.

Strange. I have successfully used this technique once in one of my userscripts – to target gruse boxes but exclude journals. It was some time ago though, and it had something to do with link colours I guess. Not sure if I still use it – or where

Been using this for a bit, had no further problems with it beyond what I mentioned earlier and most of that is fixed
