Description
Watercolor and India ink on hot press paper, approximately 10"x14". Details in Prismacolor pencils and Micron pen. Also used brushes (of course), a ruling pen, and frisket. Lots of frisket.Drawing reference: This tribal fusion photo , modeled by Apsara and photographed by Aga Cebulka.
Having grown up in a home where dance was considered A Highly Respected Art Form, I felt it was time for a classier take on Orion dancing girls than one typically sees.
There were so many good belly dance photos on dA that it took quite a while to choose the just the right reference. In the end, I liked Apsara's beautiful costuming and elegant pose so much that I used the same photo for two separate paintings. (The non-Trek version is here.)
Although, come to think of it, I've never seen an Orion dancer on Star Trek doing authentic Middle Eastern belly dance. But the Alpha Quadrant is a big place. There's probably at least one Orion dancer out there who's the real deal.
Being still fairly new to watercolor, I made a lot of technical mistakes on this one. Paper too wet, then paper not wet enough, and so forth. The version you see here was my third attempt to get it right. I fixed some of the smaller mistakes in Photoshop, but for the rest, I finally got tired of working on it and decided to post it just as it is. So here you go, and I hope you all like it, but it never quite reached the level I had in mind.

Don't know all that much about things Star Trek, but I still can appreciate this, regardless. Lovely purple and pink, and white accents of her outfit. Well done. Love the way her hair looks in this one. She has a cute face.

Thank you! I worked really hard on this one. I've learned a few things about watercolor since then that would have made it a lot easier.

Thank you so much! I'll try to get some more art posted soon, though I can't make any firm promises as I can usually only find five minutes here and five minutes there to work on pieces in-progress. But I will try!

The Alpha Quadrant is indeed a big place, and remember, humans are the cat's meow all over, whether people wish to fess up or not.

They're obsessed with us, but they won't admit it. Especially those Romulans.

Great to hear from you, too! Yeah, those Romulans can't get enough of us. We human females drive 'em crazy, probably because, let's face it, most Romulan women aren't much to look at. A single Romulan must be in want of a human wife.
