Description
Hey guys.Been awhile since I've uploaded a drawing. I was busy with the holidays, and then I got sick for awhile so that didn't help =/. I've wanted to draw an eye for a long time, and well, this is the result. Spent probably around 6-8 hours on it. Tools were HB, 2B and 4B mechanical pencils. Paper size was 30 cm by 19 cm.
Reference was the stock image found here: Intoxicating eye stock
Hope you like it ^_^.

I use either an eraser stick or kneaded eraser to "draw" the white lines =].

That'd be a question for the person who made the reference xD. You can find the reference in the description =].

I can even see the blonde hair around the eye, how does one even accomplish that?
With no sharp lines anywhere, everything is so, soft.

It's done using erasers, they're as important to me as the pencils themselves.
I shade the area first, then use one of my erasers (either kneaded or stick) to create the white lines. Then if the line is too sharp, I simply smudge it up a bit again with a cotton swab =].

I've used that method before, hasn't been fully successful, I'd have to buy those special pointed rubbers.
How long does it take to draw a couple hairs with this method?

Once you get used to doing it, it doesn't take much longer than drawing a normal hair. The best tool for it that I've found is an eraser stick that's purposefully a lot stronger than normal ones. It's literally called "Tuff Stuff Eraser Stick". Makes doing very fine/small white lines incredibly easy.

Wow... Man, that really is some serious skill. Im also amazed you don't smudge it with your had somehow. Mainly though, pun not intended but given, you have an amazing eye for drawing. Really.

Thanks so much . But believe me, I do smudge the paper up with my hand, a lot. It's such a pain to keep it clean when you're working with pencils 4B and up. Basically I have a spare sheet of paper under my hand at all times, and I try my best to work from the left side of the paper to the right, so that I'm not resting my hand on top of things I've done ._.

I figured as much when you showed that Darrel WIP, but i also figured you essentially finish a part before moving on to the next, is that true? How did you go about this eye?

TricepTerry In reply to DJP15 [2015-01-02 12:23:47 +0000 UTC]
No, not at all. I move from section to section without "finishing" them all the time. It's not really because of any sort of pattern though, it's just because I get bored of what I'm doing, so I move onto something else. Later, I'll come back and finish the things I left. It's a bad habit, but it's also good to check over all the previous areas you did in case they smudged or something =].
