As the aurora season is coming to a close up here, and the bad weather lately hasnt really permitted much northern lights photage, I thought It was due to post what I think is the best image I have captured of the season. ( shot at the 14. of november during the sickest aurora night I have evern witnessed ).

I based the edit on the poll I posted about which colors is most pleasing to look at, so this is edited with very cold temperature to bring out the blues in this.

really hope you guys like this.

Shot with nikon d800, iso 1600, 14 mm, 6 seconds exposure. Shot in sørkjose, troms county, northern norway.

Wow, just wow. The colors are beautiful and they mix so well together. Bright purple tones really make the Aurora shine against the sea.
Living so far south we don't have the luxury of these lights so your photos mean a lot! The way you manage to capture the Aurora makes it even more stunning.

I could favorite ALL your auroral displays!

Only seen TWO in my life. Once in Wausau, Wisconsin in '75: this one filled the entire sky so many rays and curtains that I forgot it was 15 below zero (a MILD winter night back then).

In the SUMMER of 1980, I actually saw red curtains over the northwest sky near Manhattan KANSAS. Now that's getting pretty far south!

Thank you very much.
That is the thing about auroras it etches itself into your memory, and you dont forget it.
that on in 1980 sounds like a insanely powerful aurora, which would be the case to see it there.

"the sickest aurora night?" I wonder what you mean by that.

This is absolutely spectacular. Ja, vi elsker dette landet

Trichardsen In reply to siyeh75 [2013-03-12 06:32:29 +0000 UTC]

Thank you kindly.

As in one of the most powerful auroras Ive seen, which btw lasted for hours, and also it was mostly red which is really rare, so the most awesome aurora night Ive experienced.

And Ja vi do.

Stunning. I've got to say that I am curious though as to what it really looked like. And you have upset me by saying that the aurora season is coming to a close!! How could you do that to me? Then again, you have been hogging a lot of space in my favourites... I love it, really!

Thank you so very much.

The difference between this and how it should look you will find by looking at "Aurora brutality", that is pretty much spot on as i saw it, except for more contrast, clarity and sharpness.

Your photos is just Amazing! I must see ONE AURORA with my own eyes before I die. Where do you live? how north you have to live to see auroras? I live in northern part of Lithuania and my Dad said he saw one in the early morning. But that can happen once in 100 years for a few minutes. and when usually aurora season starts and end?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trichardsen In reply to DragonPictures [2013-03-12 00:01:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much.

I live in northern norway.
Yeah you can see it in Lithuania, but it has to be freakishly powerful aurora, and that is quite rare, id say for good odds above 66degrees north is the way to go, higher if you want to make sure you want to see it.

Aurora season up here lasts from mid october to about now, can sometimes get some as late as april, but not that often.
