Thank you kindly.
It is weird what one can get used to, such sceneries are quite frequent up here, but rest assured I do appreciate every moment.

Beautiful composition!
Just one question, I got myself a D810 and noticed a red (sometimes magenta) band on the bottom of the image when I shoot in higher isos (6400 and up).
Long exposure NR gets rid of it, so that's a plus . Can't find anything about it and I'm not sure if it's my copy that is faulty or more affected.
And yes, love your night photography, keep up the great work!

Thank you very much
That is due to the higher voltage being run into the sensor to allow for capturing more light, the drawback is noise, color artifacts and much more.
Pushing the values of a iso 6400 image brings out that magenta band you are noticing, my advice is to not correct for the vignetting and leave the edges darker at such a iso value.
Long exposure NR works yeah, drawback is of course the wait time which can be crucial in certain situation and loose you a good picture (Aurora photographin in particular).
I get it as well at high iso and it is not anything uncommon or something to worry about but important to keep in mind when shooting, if you can shoot at lower iso I would certainly recommend it, but when you got to, use long exposure NR and keep at least some of the vignetting to hide the magenta.

Thank you very very much, I'm feeling much better now haha.
Yes you have to wait for Long Exposure NR but i figured out that the only thing that it does is a copy of the image full black and subtracts the artifacts in your photo. I made photos of high iso values with the lens cap on and then put the right one in ps, set subtract and the red band disappers. It's a great way if you don't want to add vignetting.
Thanks once again!

My pleasure.
Yeah, using black frames to reduce noise is highly effective and often needed at such iso values, if not you have to shoot with something like the Sony A7S(II).

Just a little too dark in the foreground. Otherwise this picture has a great deal to offer in its over-all composition.Β

i guess I could make it brighter, but this is the level of luminance I saw that night

For sure. I can understand the limitations of long exposures. That's of course where the photoediting software becomes part of the art.

I like that it's color while almost appearing B&W in the foreground. I also find the composition to be marvelous.

I like that trees are giving sort of creepy, gothic mood to the photo. Great foreground here along with the colorful aurora you got

Thank you very much.
Yeah, I have a tendency to lean away from having trees in my shots, mostly due to the type of trees we have here which are often rather small and more twisted and most of it is birch.
