Description
Tommy Richardsen // Trichardsen // Facebook // 500px Β // Google+ // InstagramThis is why I go up the mountain every day, and it makes things more fun when able to capture such cool shapes within the aurora.
Oh an may i add, it has been some heavy days lately, have to dress for standing still, which means when moving up a mountain with all the camera gear it is quite hard.
But it is all worth it for a shot like this, I am very proud of this cause I feel I was finaly able to capture the aurora where it speaks for itself with almost no foreground help.
For the post processing: contrast +30, clarity +32, lower by 300 temp to bring forth the stars, increased whites and blacks by a smidge, reduced the purple saturation a tad, lens correction.
Used hyperfocal distance to get everything in focus, so wasnt much need for sharpening really, but added some to it.

I'm actually planning on spending a week or two in Norway this summer, flying into Oslo and heading north to TronsΓΈ. Any suggestions on places to visit?

Hiking
The gentler coastal mountains around TromsΓΈ offer safe and easy walks with fantastic panoramas of the open sea. The Lyngen Alps, rising 1,800 metres above the fjord, are altogether more challenging. Guided mountain hikes as well as glacier walks are available, but you can also hike on your own, as there is a mountain for every level of fitness around TromsΓΈ.
The city's professional theatre, HΓ₯logaland Theatre, plays in the musical language of the north. The symphony orchestra plays high quality music and is not afraid to perform outside the concert halls.
The Art Museum of Northern Norway and the TromsΓΈ Gallery of Contemporary Art display art inspired by the light and shapes of Northern Norwa
Numerous festivals enlighten long winter nights, such as Barents Jazz, TromsΓΈ International Film Festival and the Northern Lights Festival.
The Norwegian Reindeer Racing Championship uses TromsΓΈ's main street as a racecourse.
this is just a copy paste from the english version of the "what to do in tromsΓΈ"
Also you have the polar museum which is very good, if you like to go out to enjoy the night life, TromsΓΈ has many great bars where you can sit and drink and stay warm.
You can take the ski lift up the mountain, even if you dont ski you can just enjoy the scenery.
There is a lot of things that will surely keep you occupied while staying there, I do suggest you check this [link] out for more info, it will surely help your decicion makeing.

I love this. I can't even critique it, because there's nothing to critique.
The only thing I can possibly think of, is to carry a 14mm f/2.8 instead of your zoom . That's the only way I could possibly make that kit lighter without a smaller tripod or adding a DX body.
You framed this well, post processed well, I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with this in an artistic way what-so-ever.

Thank you very much.
you mean the 14 mm f/1.4 I presume, yeah but its a lot of money in lenses and there is a few others I want to get before I will get the 14 and 24 mm lenses.
Appreciate it.

Hehe, nah, I don't think there is a 14 f/1.4 in existence, my man.
The 24 is about $300 used, and the 14 would be slightly more. Probably close to $900. But definitely lighter.
The Sigma 14 is an alternative, but I don't think it would be as sharp as the Nikon, and definitely more distortion than your zoom. So are the tradeoffs for price, size, and convenience .
But keep shooting dude, love this work .

Yeah I was thinking about the 1.4 on the 24 mm.
Anyways the difference in sharpness between the 14 prime and the 14-24 zoom is minimal, so I do not really see the need to get such a lens when I already have the zoom one.
And I wouldnt really go sigma, id rather get the nikon holy trinity.
And thank you.
