Actually I did read the in-game bios of the major characters, so I am aware of that. However, when drawing a comic about field-goal kicking a bunch of zombie space-babies, I figured it would be okay to take a couple liberties.
But yeah, Dead Space actually had a cool backstory. Can't wait to play the second one.
