The final artwork I'm doing for Sonic 1, onto Sonic 2 now.

This is the furthest I've deviated from the original designs so far. But seen as though the music from Scrap Brain is so obviously inspired by Bladerunner, I wanted to pay a little homage too, though hopefully it's still recognizable as the original level.

Looks like the construction zone for the Death Egg, as far as one rumour on the internet goes, and this picture (sorta) backs it up.

Anyway, enough of theories, it is such a much more awesome look , just as good as Sega's original .

12/10 for loads of detail and elements, that remind me of a suped up 'Industrial Zone' from 'The Crystal Maze', with Richard o'Brain as the host (i also did like Edward Tudor Pole as well ).

Keep up the creative effort and work .

This version of Scrap Brain zone really surprised me because it reminded me a bigger version of the petrochemical site of a sicilian city, Gela (actually when i went there, (where i would never go back ), i just recalled the Scrap Brain to the petrochemical site)

I actually loved the background, it's wonderful (only graphically, pollution is never wonderful XD)

Hi there!
All official artwork and character designs of the era sported buckles, so they were an official part of his costume. Except the Megadrive didn't have the necessary resolution to display them on the ingame sprite I would imagine

Yeah, they're there in some artwork and not in others. I guess it was down to individual artists. Y'now what? I'm thinking now that they only appeared AFTER Sonic 2.

EXCELLENCE. I've always thought about how the Scrap Brain Zone should look like, at least in pseudo-reality, and this realizes my thoughts. (Some where in New Jersey) <---They have an expansive area / horizon of factories, facilities and industrial zones

Btw I do know what the Scrap Brain Zone would smell like in real life. There was a 4 alarm fire at a Metal Incineration and Recycling Factory facility several miles away from me and the smoke / residue could be seen pitchblack above my apt. building in the night sky and it had a very penetrating melted / fried / burning metal & electronics smell. Right there and then I exclaimed..."SCRAP BRAIN ZONE...I can...I CAN smelll IT....".
