Description "Well, it looks like I just saved your life. How do you think you can ever repay me?"

Presenting the Wood Nymph Ranger: A warrior class of (tree-sized) tree-spirit. Individuals dedicated to keeping thier forests free of danger and injustice. Though they have no formal organization nor process of initiation, those who call themselves Rangers believe themselves to be a breed apart from ordinary Wood Nymphs....

While most Nymphs are naturally shy and flighty, a Ranger is serious and decisive.

While most Nymphs hide from even the mildest of confrontations, a Ranger will stand firm no matter the situation.

While most Nymphs wear skimpy, revealing outfits, a Ranger understands the necessity of armor.

While most Nymphs have no personal possessions, a Ranger would sooner die than give up her axe. (Hey, it took a lot of effort to scrounge up enough bronze for that axe-head. And then finding someone who could cast it...)

While most Nymphs will spend every waking moment obsessing about sex, a Ranger understands that sometimes there are more important issues that take precedence over thier own selfish desires......However, once those important issues have been resolved, a Ranger can still obsess about sex with the best of them!

Now that's a highly effective way to earn someone's gratitude. Nearby drakes should be taking notes!

So would there be wood nymph brigands as a counterpart to the rangers?

Oh, yes, there are bad people of all sorts out there.... That's why few people are happy when first abducted!

I really like this one, that Minatore would be an intimidating for to her, it would seem like a godzilla style monster to a human town.

To the Humas, the beast would be like the proverbial bull in a china shop!
Anyways, glad you liked it! I was rather pleased with the damsel in this one...

Quite an interesting bit of work and characterization here. I suppose I need to get started commenting.

I rather like the playful attitude of the lady here and the ideal of a ranger nymph is a rather interesting one. In most story lines they seem so static as a species it's nice to see them being used in a more dynamic way. Though they are so many things that can go right in this moment and so many things that can go wrong. I can only imagine how the guy might feel if he's in a committed relationship.

It's hard enough to say no to a lovely lady but when she's many times your size and just saved your life that grows all the more difficult.

I wonder if the minotaur was thinking anything interesting in his final moments though. Perhaps lamenting the fact that it had never made any friends who were capable of shaping a nice sturdy ax. I'm also curious though. In many stories dryads are linked to a tree or a given natural region. Mighten the handle of the weapon be made from the tree she originated from?

Also I wonder if a dryad might learn to shape a weapon from natural elements or perhaps get some help from some elfs. I've been through more then a few games in which the elfs would make use of a branch from a dryad or ancient tree to create a blade or the such that could compete with fine steel. Just not dwarven steel most the time.

Ah, that's quite the comment. Many thanks. Responding to a few of the highpoints...

You probably won't see any dwarves in my realm (Vistallah). I didn't start this gallery to draw stocky bearded guys... My Elves are also not really in the Tolkien mold... As for the Nymphs, I'm the myth of Daphne as my starting point, the ladies don't come from trees, they turn into a tree when not active. So the handle of her axe...could be as much a part of her as her own arm. Could form its own trunk/branch when she's resting. (With the axehead showing, of course) That's been on my to-draw list since the Nymph concept got stabalized.

And glad you like the playfulness! That's what I'm going for with the Nymphs. Either elusively playful, or boldly playful like this girl. As for the guy, well, as with the guys is so many of my pictures, he's in no position to decline her offer, even if he wanted to...

So would you define your Elfs as more productive or less productive then the Tolkien style? One thing I've always wanted to see a human say to an elf is, "Wow you've lived for how many hundreds of years and that's all you've done?"

I'd say that's a good way to make sure she doesn't lose track of her weapon. Also it would justify the hilt not wearing out as perhaps while she's wresting the handle is healed as well.

Yeah, I've never really appreciated the 'imortal' aspec of Elves, so I ditched that for my version. (Except for the Emperors and Prefects and the like) My Elves would generally be less productive than the standard Tolkien Elf. Mine are typically either gypsy merchants or tinkerers, or slaves toiling away under some ancient near-eastern commie empire. Generally less productive, certainly less noble...

Here's the basic overview of my version of Elves. [link]

Yes, Rangers are badass! ...Partly because they don't last long if they're not.

How cool ! I love it . The characters, the background, the scene but most importantly the story behind it. Instant fav.

PS: Wood nymphs are the coolest.
