Description
Just a reminder of why most of the monsters of Vistallah act so 'nice' to all the helpless peasants. Because if they are 'mean' then they have to deal with knights who can do things like this. But on the other hand, doing things like this takes a lot of effort. And most knights won't go through this kind of hassle unless the they have really good reason to. So as long as monsters never rise above the level of 'nuicance to other people,' most knights will leave them to thier own devices...

Ah, magic. The great equalizer. It's why I retired my swords so long ago. A little lightning, or better yet mental domination, goes a long way towards keeping the monsters in check.
Lookin' good, man. I especially like the pose, the funky blue spirit-lightning and the runes on the sword and shield. Also, that is one thick, manly goatee. You don't mess with dudes with such epic goatees.

The 'equalizer' effect is magic's primary purpose in Vistallah! And its nice to hear something good about the lightning effect. I was kind of unsure of that...

I like the lightning. It'd be interesting to see it in action. Y'know, see what the little guy can do against a really bad monster. Just out of curiosity, what do you think is the single most dangerous creature that a knight like that would have to try to take down if it gets out of line?

The Drake and the She-Drake are the single most formidable creatures in Vistallah. They're big, they fly, they have a magical attack-breath, and they are not especially vulnerable to magic. (It can still hurts them, but not as easilly as other creatures: [link] ) Bascially, they are extremely tough, and--because they can fly away at any time--extremely manuverable. Thus its hard to out-match them, and even harder to force them into a fight that they don't want to be in. Either one can be done, but not without great effort.

I remember seeing that pic and reading the description now. Sorry, I could've researched that myself. That was lazy of me.
Anyway, I can definitely see where the Drake and She-Drake are the toughest ones to try to tackle. It sounds like they've got superior defense, offense and mobility. So, this knight here, I'm assuming his sword and shield would be considered the military grade magic that you'd mentioned in the link?

Yeah, the knight's equipment is definately 'military grade.'
And no worries. The question was perfectly valid. I just knew I had that picture to illustrate one aspect of the answer. The Drakes were designed to be fighting machines, in pretty much all ways, including what was shown there.

Have you done any pics showing the knights fighting against some of these monsters? That'd be pretty interesting, especially against a She-Drake. And do those runes somehow confer any extra toughness and protection to the knight, or does he perhaps have any other items or training to help him survive? But now I'm just being a pain in the butt, so I'll stop pestering you. Vistallah is a very interesting place.

I...really haven't done many combat pictures. Those are hard to do, and, well generally lack fanservice potential. Plus, I've spent a lot of time emphasizing that most Humans fight as groups (of heavilly armed footsoldiers) which is even harder to draw...
As for how the runes work, usually they either give weapons some extra killing power or give armor some enhanced protective power. Like a magical force-field or negating magical or physical impacts... Something along those lines.
The one story I've written has a combat scene from a footsoldier's point of view. And here's an overview of some combat-ish pictures I've done. They are indeed few and far between... [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link]

And 'playing' presents the best opportunities for fanservice anyway, so it works out best for everyone.

Thanks for continuing to take the time to answer all of my questions, and especially for the links. I can see that humans aren't nearly as helpless as they're often portrayed elsewhere. I knew that was the case in Vistallah, but I guess I never realized just how, well, badass they sometimes were. That said, I can appreciate just how much of a pain it must be to draw dozens of warriors, not to mention that it doesn't really do much, as you said, for the fanservice element. Once again, it sounds like the magic from the runes creates an even playing field, countering the natural size and strength advantage of the various monsters.
I like a lot of the links. The one with the Drake wenching with his dragonrider buddy (I appreciate his moral dilemma ) is hilarious and I would nominate for full color if I could.
I immediately recognized the shield from the last one because it's your avatar pic.
The view of the foot soldier with the High Elf attacking was cool. Sounds like suicide with the sheer amount of magic that's going to be used against her, but it would still be an impressive sight for those on the receiving end of her charge. Finally, I found the pic with the soldiers surrounding the wounded She-Drake especially... poignant? Effective? Sounds like she had it coming, and it does a nice job of demonstrating just how much a well-trained, well-equipped and well-disciplined group of humans can do when faced with a truly nasty monster.
Anyway, just my thoughts on it. Very well thought out stuff. My hat's off to ya for that.

They are badass only when fully roused and committed. Thus, it in the interest of every giant or magical creature not to get the Humans fully roused. As long as they are just 'playing' with the people who don't have much clout, then they can get away with practically whatever they want.

This guy would make a good story arc.
(Don't worry, I don't charge for bad puns.)

Good. Puns should never be sold. Rather, they should be given away in order to spark interest in a picture.
