Description
The fiery ninja of justice, Goemon, joins the Brawl! He comes all the way from Oedo to fight as a champion!Goemon has many different types of weaponry, such as Ryo and two varieties of pipes.

NAME: Goemon
FIRST APPEARANCE: Mr. Goemon (Arcade, 1981)
SERIES: Mystical Ninja (Ganbare Goemon)
LOGO: Goemon Production Team logo
----------------
Remember how I said before that Mega Man was one of two third-party characters I really wanted? Well, here's the second one! Goemon is my other choice for a third-party Brawler, and he'd fit right into the Brawl scene. He's got a lot of character, and could have some interesting moves as well.
Goemon hails from the Mystical Ninja series, also known as Ganbare Goemon in Japan. The series is very famous in Japan, with Goemon's popularity almost rivaling that of Mario. Not many of the series' games are released stateside, as many people wouldn't get the references to Japanese culture. Only four of these games have crossed the sea, and one of them in particular, Mystical Ninja starring Goemon!, was an integral part of my formative gaming years. I fell in love with the series, and bought more of the English Mystical Ninja games.
Perhaps Goemon might even be better than Mega Man as Brawl's final third-party representative. He certainly has more character than the Blue Bomber, and his moveset could be less complicated and confusing than that of Mega Man.
Speaking of movesets, let's move right on to Goemon's.
The Burning Ryo is the same old charge move that's been seen numerous times. The basic projectile is a single Ryo that flies in a straight trajectory. It can be charged up to become a Burning Ryo, which also sets whoever it hits on fire.
The Chain Pipe is a tether recovery technique which allows Goemon to grab opponents out of the sky and latch onto ledges. It aims diagonally, as it did in the Mystical Ninja games.
To be honest, I'm a bit hesitant about adding tether recovery moves to characters when I haven't even tested this concept myself. Then again, there's really no way to test the tether recovery technique.
Sudden Impact, also known as the Critical Situation Technique, is a weird move. It's a technique that powers up Goemon, but at a price. When Goemon uses Sudden Impact, his physical attacks deal double damage and have increased knockback capabilities. The aforementioned price is that Goemon also takes double damage, making for a more intense overall game. The transformation lasts only for a limited time, and also comes with a slick, golden hairdo. Perfect for fans of Dragon Ball Z.
The Goemon Yo-Yo is a bit of an out-there idea, but it works. In previous games, Goemon could use a yo-yo to defeat enemies as well as a pipe. This weapon transitions to Brawl, using a yo-yo to strike enemies from a distance. In the Mystical Ninja games, the yo-yo was a normal size, but I'd make it a bit bigger so people can see it better. Kind of like Ness's old yo-yo.
Goemon's Final Smash, Go Team Goemon!, is a bit unexpected, and I'll explain why in just a second. When Goemon uses a Smash Ball's power, he is able to summon his three ninja cohorts; Ebisumaru, Yae, and Sasuke. Each is like a super-powered Assist Trophy, and are invincible, leaving the stage after an interval of time. Each one attacks in their own individual way:
• Ebisumaru can throw stars and attack with poison gas that causes continual damage. His physical attacks consist of using his Meat-Saw Hammer, smacking players and creating Dumplings for later consumption. He can also fly around using paper fans and Hip Drop onto them from above.
• Yae is a skilled swordswoman, and she can slice foes repeatedly with her katana. She mainly uses this, as well as leaping sword techniques, but she can also use her Yae Bazooka to fire homing projectiles at enemies.
• Sasuke, the clockwork ninja, slices enemies with short-range kunai melee attacks. He can also throw kunai long distances, striking enemies from afar. Some kunai are Kunai of Severe Cold, used to freeze opponents. Sasuke can also use the Hansou Kunai technique, throwing kunai in eight directions at once. He can also use Firecracker Bombs, as well as his trademark Hair Attack.
The reason this Final Smash is unexpected is because Goemon also has access to a giant robot named Impact. In the Mystical Ninja games, Impact is able to be summoned to fight other giant robots with many weapons and attacks. Fans of the series would expect Impact to be summoned as a Final Smash, but I didn't think this was such a good idea. This is because I have an idea for an Impact-themed stage:
In this scenario, the giant robot, Impact, is skating along the countryside, wrecking buildings as he goes. The stage starts off on top of Impact's head. A platform with a slight curve to it. Later, platforms take you to fight in front of Impact's face, where you fight while dodging nasal bullets and laser fire.
The platforms change formation and take you to a profile view of Impact's face. Same thing goes, except in a profile view. Platforms change formation again and take you down near the houses through which Impact is skating. If you fall off of the platform, you can get sucked into the debris, kind of like in Big Blue. After this, the players float back up to the top to start the cycle over.
Anyway, we're down to the wire here. I'm aiming to get this series done by the time school started for me on January 7, so I won't have to worry about it and can focus on my studies. I guess I better get busy, then.
Two Profiles left! Next one's a veteran.
Update: As of today (7/30/09), the text in this profile has been updated with Justified Left alignment, making the text a little cleaner when confined to boxes. Also, some move descriptions have been changed to better fit the new alignment. One move name has been changed as well.

Quick question, for the chain pipe move, does it only grab players and pull them down? Cuz, it would be really awesome if it would bring Goemon in the air, and he jump on the other guy hard enough to send him downwards.

I think his Down + B move should be to change between members (Ebisumaru, Yae and Sasuke...kinda like Pokemon Trainer only cooler) as a throw back to the Super Famicom games. Particularly Goemon 3.
Sudden Impact is okay and all but I'm not sure if it's that much worth taking a move slot...balance issues for one.
Summoning Impact would make a great Final Smash (being able to use Ultra/Hyakuretsu Punch, Laser Mouth or a barrage of Nasal Ryo Bullets) and I suppose if they wanted to make a reference to the 2nd PlayStation game then they could have Impact change depending on which Goemon character.

I agree. For the final smash, however, it should be like The Legend of the Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon. Impact "Abducts" the character, and you get to punch, shoot, and do whole ton of other painful stuff. If you haven't played the game, search "The legend of the mystical ninja starring goemon" and there will probably be videos on it.

Wait, are you referring to me or just other people for the "If you haven't played the game" part.

I meant other people. I should have included "For those of you who haven't played." Sorry for the misunderstanding.

OK, can somebody please make a poll to vote for which series you like better, Goemon, Mega Man, or mixed? I love those series, you know.

If he were to be in the game, I hope he's voiced by Vic Mignogna, like in the ADV Dubbed anime series.

No. The entire Profiles in Smash series (save for a couple of my predictions that came true, such as Olimar and Lucario) are all characters who I hoped would show up in the game.
Now that Brawl's released, they can stand for characters in a hypothetical Smash Bros. 4. I'd love to see them all as playable characters someday, unlikely as that may be.
