She closed her eyes, leaving her with only the warm sensation of the loving hug. She still wasn’t sure how all this was even possible but the presence in her mind didn’t let her worry about it at all, it let her to focus only on her first memory in its full glory.

Alarea felt a soft nudge against her consciousness.

She opened her eyes, just to see she was now surrounded with light and colors instead of the empty eerie void. All those softly glowing blotches seemed to vaguely reflect various memories of her whole life. They seemed to be connected with golden threads as they branched out from the biggest one - the one where she had just witnessed her own hatching - and were surrounding it in almost chronological order. Closest ones were of her early years, which in turn branched into her teenage years, then to early adolescent times and finally, all this was surrounded by her most recent memories. All of them were moving, wrapping everything in gentle golden light.

There was another nudge against her mind. It wanted her to pick one.

Alarea looked around, needing a moment to decide as all of those good memories were dear to her. Suddenly, her gaze stopped at one. Yes, that was it.

Giving a gentle push with her limbs, she felt as if she was floating underwater, except there was no need to utilize magic to breathe. She was just weightlessly floating towards her target while the edges of other memory windows tickled her scales with their sparkles. She motioned herself to stop right before the specific ethereal manifestation while observing the shapes move inside of it. It reminded her of a mirror, except it was reflecting her mind, not her physical appearance.

She knew she had to reach out and touch it, and so she did.

The very moment her nubby claw made contact with it, it bursted. Swirly golden streams snaked out, surrounding her and vowed themselves together into a new fabric of reality. Gold was replaced with vague shapes, then colors stained them as they grew more apparent and vivid. Looks like this time she was within the chosen memory itself, not observing it from an obscure distance. She felt the grass under her feet and the dimming evening Sun caressing her scales. The world was bigger… or she was smaller? Looking down she noticed her wearing a beautiful dress, which was made with notable love and care. Yes! This was the dress mama Martha made for her when they were celebrating Alarea’s 10th birthday. She looked up towards the buildings blazing in the last rays of the setting Sun in front of her and recognized them. This place was her second home, where she grew up into the person she is today. After Martha arrived at Canto’s and took baby Alarea under her wing, this was the place she brought her and where she had her first true family and close-knit community. Today was the evening after day full of laughter, eating, dancing, playing, hugs and presents. Most guests had gone home, some stayed overnight and some lived right here with her. That’s right! She had gone by the creek to find a couple of newts or frogs because a playmate didn’t believe she could catch them. One of her pockets was heavier than others and damp, plus now she felt some movement in there. With a heartfelt giggle she took off towards the entrance of their courtyard.

When she arrived there she remembered how she looked around for the playmate, but as it turned out, he had already gone home with his parents. This didn’t gloom her spirit one bit, quite many Rexals were busy cleaning up the more urgent things after the party and the poor frog found its sneaky way into one of the busy auntie’s pockets. Alrea also wanted to help with the cleaning but nobody let her, as this was still her special day. Instead she was showered with more loving hugs, head pats and one uncle even let her ride on his back as he was carrying some benches into a shed. Everybody seemed to be loaded with positive energy from the day and it could be clearly felt in the air, especially because the night was pleasantly warm.

At some point, mama Martha appeared from the crowd, looking for Alarea. After finding her she beamed up with a genuine smile, picked up the beloved birthday girl and brought her inside their house. In the candle-lit kitchen there were still some cake leftovers and other delicious snacks piled up on the old and heavy oak table. Martha had made some cocoa and sat behind the table with Alarea, allowing her to eat as much cake as she could while listening to her adventures with other kids, what presents she got and how excited she was about… well, everything! She most definitely couldn’t ask for a better day. Now when Alarea was sitting, she started to feel how tired her little body really was from the remarkably eventful day. Full tummy and delicious cocoa made her slightly sleepy and despite being so young, she knew very well that tonight she’ll have an excellent slumber and colorful dreams. However she wanted to tell Martha everything before bedtime and thus, she kept talking between the last bites. And just so happened, when she got to the part of confessing about slipping the frog into one auntie’s pocket, there was a surprised shriek across the courtyard, followed by multiple Rex laughing. Martha couldn’t stay serious either and they both had a good minute of laughter on the perfectly aligned situation.

This was the best day of her life and Alarea was extremely grateful she was given the opportunity to relive it so vividly once more.
